Lent – Day 6 – Bible Study

Paul wrote in Philippians 4:6–7 “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus..” Worry about nothing; pray about everything 1 Thessalonians 5:17 “Pray without ceasing.”. Prayer is direct talking to God, It’s not meditation or passive reflection; It is the communication of the human soul with the Lord who created the soul; it is direct address to Almighty God, our Heavenly Father. Prayer can be audible or silent, private or with group, long or short, formal or casual; but its must be offered in faith James 1:6 “But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.”, It’s addressed to God as Father, in the name of the Lord Jesus John 16:23 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.” as Mediator and in the power of the Holy Spirit Romans 8:26 “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”.
Remember, When we pray, God hears more than we say, answers more than we ask, so make it simple and sweet.. He is far more interested in our communicating with Him and speaking from our hearts than He is in the specific words we use Philippians 4:6-7, But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to our Heavenly Father Matthew 6:6 “But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which”. Then our Heavenly Father, God who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

God does answer our prayers John 16:24 “Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.” We come to God with our specific requests, and we have God's promise that our prayers are not in vain, even if we do not receive specifically what we asked for and Romans 8:26-27 “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”. He has promised that when we ask for things that are in accordance with His will, He will give us what we ask for 1 John 5:14-15 “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.”. Sometimes He delays for our benefit. In these situations, we are to be diligent and persistent in prayer Matthew 7:7 “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:” and Luke 18:1-8 “And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; 2 Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: 3 And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. 4 And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; 5 Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. 6 And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. 7 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? 8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?”. Prayer should not be seen as of getting God to do our will in our life, but rather as a means of getting God's will done in our life so when you pray say this “Not my will, but your will be done.” And this is the key to answered prayer is praying according to the will of God. And yes..! don’t ask anything wrong or against somebody, it’s not acceptable to God James 4:3 “Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.”.

Don’t limit what God is able to do through you Mark 9:23 “Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.”. He wants us to talk with Him about everything, Yes.. about Everything!! God has said that we often go without because we do not ask!!!! :O James 4:2 “yet ye have not, because ye ask not..” hmm……Let’s take some examples, If the Syrian woman with the demon-influenced daughter had not prayed to Christ, her daughter would not have been made whole Mark 7:26-30 “The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter. 27 But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it unto the dogs. 28 And she answered and said unto him, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs. 29 And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the devil is gone out of thy daughter. 30 And when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed.”. and what If the blind man outside Jericho had not called out to Christ, he would have remained blind Luke 18:35-43 “And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging 36 And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant. 37 And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by. 38 And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. 39 And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me. 40 And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him and when he was come near, he asked him, 41 Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight. 42 And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight thy faith hath saved thee. 43 And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.”.

Holy Bible teaches us that God does answer our prayers John 16:24 “Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.”. We should keep a running conversation going with God all day long but don’t be like hypocrisy Luke 18:10-14 “Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. 12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. 13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.”. Because  they have no desire to pray Psalm 10:4 “The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.”, but the children of God have a natural desire to pray Luke 11:1 “And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.”. When you pray, do not use heavy words and keep repeating useless things as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words Matthew 6:6-7 “But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. 7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.”., A prayer for forgiveness should be humble, it is a request for grace instead of judgment, It is a request for mercy instead of wrath; only represents what a person knows, understands, and believes about their sinfulness and need for salvation. Just simply pour out our hearts to God, In prayers Philippians 4:6-7 “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”. We are all sinners in need of mercy and forgiveness from God. Titus 3:5-7 “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; 7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”. "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one." Because of our sin, we deserve eternal punishment Matthew 25:46 “And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.”.  Jesus died on the cross in our place, taking the punishment that we deserve Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” and rose from the dead to prove His victory over sin, death, and hell Colossians 2:15 “And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.” and 1 Corinthians 15. Because of all of this, we can have our sins forgiven and be promised an eternal home in Heaven - if we will just place our faith in Jesus Christ. All we have to do is believe that He died in our place and rose from the dead Romans 10:9-10 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”. We can be saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone. Ephesians 2:8 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:”

Now I know that God hears my heart and knows me better than I know myself.

The Lord’s Prayer
Matthew 6:7-15
But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
8 Be not ye therefore like unto them for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
9 After this manner therefore pray ye Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you
15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

And yes..! don’t forget to pray for one another…

Isaiah 55:10-11
For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Psalms 34
I will bless the LORD at all times his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
2 My soul shall make her boast in the LORD the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.
3 O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.
4 I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.
5 They looked unto him, and were lightened and their faces were not ashamed.
6 This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.
7 The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.
8 O taste and see that the LORD is good blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
9 O fear the LORD, ye his saints for there is no want to them that fear him.
10 The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.
11 Come, ye children, hearken unto me I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
12 What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good?
13 Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.
14 Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.
15 The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.
16 The face of the LORD is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.

17 The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.
18 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.
20 He keepeth all his bones not one of them is broken.
21 Evil shall slay the wicked and they that hate the righteous shall be desolate.
22 The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.

We all sinned n deserve GOD’s judgment, but our loving FATHER, GOD sent HIS only begotten SON to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in HIM. JESUS, our LORD who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that HE died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buries n rose from the dead according to the Holy Bible. If you truly believe n trust in your heart, receiving JESUS alone as your SAVIOUR, declaring (by Baptism) JESUS is The LORD n SAVIOUR, you will be SAVED from the judgment n spend ETERNITY with GOD in HEAVEN…. In The name of our LORD JESUS CHRIST.. Amen
