Lent – Day 7 –
Bible Study
Joshua 1:9
“Have not I commanded
thee? Be strong and of a good courage;
be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee
whithersoever thou goest.”
Luke 15:11-32
“And he said, A certain
man had two sons
12 And the younger of
them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to
me. And he divided unto them his living.
13 And not many days
after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far
country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.
14 And when he had spent
all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.
15 And he went and joined
himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed
swine.
16 And he would fain have
filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat and no man gave unto
him.
17 And when he came to
himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and
to spare, and I perish with hunger!
18 I will arise and go to
my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and
before thee,
19 And am no more worthy
to be called thy son make me as one of thy hired servants.
20 And he arose, and came
to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had
compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.
21 And the son said unto
him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more
worthy to be called thy son.
22 But the father said to
his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on
his hand, and shoes on his feet
23 And bring hither the
fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry
24 For this my son was
dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be
merry.
25 Now his elder son was
in the field and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard musick and
dancing.
26 And he called one of
the servants, and asked what these things meant.
27 And he said unto him,
Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he
hath received him safe and sound.
28 And he was angry, and
would not go in therefore came his father out, and intreated him.
29 And he answering said
to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at
any time thy commandment and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make
merry with my friends
30 But as soon as this
thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed
for him the fatted calf.
31 And he said unto him,
Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.
32 It was meet that we
should make merry, and be glad for this thy brother was dead, and is alive
again; and was lost, and is found.”
In this parable
Jesus describe how our Father in Heaven feels toward repentant sinners. Jesus
identifies Himself with our Heavenly Father in His loving attitude to the lost.
The younger son symbolizes the lost and the elder brother represents the
self-righteous. When the son came back to his father; He is so filled with joy
that he doesn’t even let him finish his confession nor does he question or
lecture him; instead, he unconditionally forgives him, accepts him back into
fellowship, greeting him with a kiss and ordering the celebration is a picture
of how our Heavenly Father feels towards sinners who repent. Just like the
father in this parable, God greatly loves us and patiently waits for us to
repent so he can show us His great mercy, because he does not want any to
perish nor escape as though by the fire Ephesians
2:1-10 “And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course
of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that
now worketh in the children of disobedience
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times
past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the
mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love
wherewith he loved us,
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us
together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit
together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus
7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding
riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not
of yourselves it is the gift of God
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus
unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”;
2 Peter 3:9
“The Lord is not slack
concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to
us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to
repentance.”
1 Corinthians 3:15
“If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss:
but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.”
Our Father, God does
not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. That
is what His grace does for a penitent sinner Psalm 40:2 “He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of
the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.” and Psalm 103:4 “Who redeemeth thy life
from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;”. Not only are we
forgiven, but we receive The Spirit of sonship as His children, heirs of God
and co-heirs with Christ, of His incomparable riches. For as high as the
Heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him. Romans 8:16-17 “The
Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if
so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.” and Ephesians 1:18-19 “The eyes of your understanding being
enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the
riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, 19 And what is the
exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the
working of his mighty power,”. As a Father has
compassion on his children, so Our Heavenly Father has compassion on those who
fear Him. Psalm 103:10-13 “He hath not dealt with us
after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. 11 For as the
heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear
him. 12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our
transgressions from us. 13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD
pitieth them that fear him.”. Instead of condemnation, there is rejoicing for
a son who had been dead but now is alive, who once was lost but now is found Romans 8:1 “There is therefore now no condemnation to
them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the
Spirit.” and ...
John 5:24 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that
heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall
not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”. And yes..!
It‘s important that we understand repentance is not a work we do to earn
salvation. No one can repent and come to God unless God pulls that person to Himself,
John 6:44 “No man can come to me, except the Father which
hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.” and Acts 5:31 “Him hath God exalted with his right
hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and
forgiveness of sins.”. Repentance is
something God gives—it is only possible because of His grace that we are saved,
not by works that we may boast of Ephesians 2:9 “Not of works, lest any man should boast.”, Romans 9:16 “So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of
him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.” and Psalm 51:5 “Behold, I was
shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.”.
Luke 15:3-7
And he spake this parable
unto them, saying,
4 What man of you, having
an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in
the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?
5 And when he hath found
it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
6 And when he cometh
home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice
with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.
7 I say unto you, that
likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over
ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.
Psalm 107
Bless the LORD, O my soul
and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
2 Bless the LORD, O my
soul, and forget not all his benefits
3 Who forgiveth all thine
iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
4 Who redeemeth thy life
from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;
5 Who satisfieth thy
mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.
6 The LORD executeth
righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.
7 He made known his ways
unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel.
8 The LORD is merciful
and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.
9 He will not always
chide neither will he keep his anger for ever.
10 He hath not dealt with
us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.
11 For as the heaven is
high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.
12 As far as the east is
from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.
13 Like as a father
pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.
14 For he knoweth our
frame; he remembereth that we are dust.
15 As for man, his days
are as grass as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.
16 For the wind passeth
over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.
17 But the mercy of the
LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his
righteousness unto children's children;
18 To such as keep his
covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.
19 The LORD hath prepared
his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.
20 Bless the LORD, ye his
angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the
voice of his word.
21 Bless ye the LORD, all
ye his hosts; ye ministers of his, that do his pleasure.
22 Bless the LORD, all
his works in all places of his dominion bless the LORD, O my soul.
Psalm 51
Have mercy upon me, O
God, according to thy lovingkindness according unto the multitude of thy tender
mercies blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me throughly from
mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I acknowledge my
transgressions and my sin is ever before me.
4 Against thee, thee
only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight that thou mightest be
justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.
5 Behold, I was shapen in
iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.
6 Behold, thou desirest
truth in the inward parts and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know
wisdom.
7 Purge me with hyssop,
and I shall be clean wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8 Make me to hear joy and
gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.
9 Hide thy face from my
sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean
heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from
thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
12 Restore unto me the
joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
13 Then will I teach
transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
14 Deliver me from
bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation and my tongue shall sing aloud
of thy righteousness.
15 O Lord, open thou my
lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.
16 For thou desirest not
sacrifice; else would I give it thou delightest not in burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God
are a broken spirit a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not
despise.
18 Do good in thy good
pleasure unto Zion build thou the walls of Jerusalem.
19 Then shalt thou be
pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole
burnt offering then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.

We all sinned n deserve GOD’s judgment, but our loving FATHER, GOD sent HIS only begotten SON to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in HIM. JESUS, our LORD who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that HE died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buries n rose from the dead according to the Holy Bible. If you truly believe n trust in your heart, receiving JESUS alone as your SAVIOUR, declaring (by Baptism) JESUS is The LORD n SAVIOUR, you will be SAVED from the judgment n spend ETERNITY with GOD in HEAVEN….
In The name of our LORD JESUS CHRIST.. Amen
