Luke 6:36-38
Be ye
therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.
37 Judge not,
and ye shall not be judged condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned forgive,
and ye shall be forgiven
38 Give, and
it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together,
and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure
that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
Jesus’ command us not to judge Matthew 7:1 “Judge not, that ye be not judged.” or condemn someone
or pass any judgment and declare them guilty. He tell us to look at our own sin
before judging someone else..
John 8:1-11
“Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.
2 And early in
the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him;
and he sat down, and taught them.
3 And the
scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they
had set her in the midst,
4 They say
unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
5 Now Moses in
the law commanded us, that such should be stoned but what sayest thou?
6 This they
said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down,
and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
7 So when they
continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is
without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
8 And again he
stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
9 And they
which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one,
beginning at the eldest, even unto the last and Jesus was left alone, and the
woman standing in the midst.
10 When Jesus
had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman,
where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
11 She said,
No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee go, and sin no
more.”.
James 5:20 “Let
him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall
save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.” where James
talks about bringing a sinner back from the error of his/her sinful ways. We
did not know God ways—He is Almighty God, He can do anything..and we all agree
that..right! J
Now, back to the point.. when Jesus said not to
judge others, He did not mean that we are not allowed to judge people’s action.
Immediately after Jesus says, “Do not judge,” He says, “Do not give dogs what
is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs” Matthew 7:6
“Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before
swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.”. He added
“Watch out for false prophets—by their fruit you will recognize them” Matthew 7:15–16 “Beware of false prophets, which come to
you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.16 Ye shall know
them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?”. So, how can we
recognize who are the “dogs-pigs” and “false prophets” unless we have the
ability to make a judgment. Jesus is giving us permission to tell right from
wrong, we can judge people by their fruits Matthew
7:16-20 “Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or
figs of thistles? 17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a
corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil
fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19 Every tree that
bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20
Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.”. James says that we should not judge our
neighbors James 4:11-12 “Speak not evil one of another,
brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother,
speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou
art not a doer of the law, but a judge.12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to
save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?” . once again,
this does not stop us from judging whether or not our neighbor’s actions is
sinful. Another case of judging people’s action, rather than the person 1 Corinthians 2:15 “But he that is spiritual judgeth all
things, yet he himself is judged of no man.”, 1 Corinthians 6:2-3 “Do ye not
know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by
you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? 3 Know ye not that we shall
judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?”. But many
people use Bible verse in an attempt to silence their critics, interpreting
Jesus’ meaning as “You don’t have the right to tell me I’m wrong.” Taken in
isolation, Jesus’ command “Do not judge”. However, there is much more to the
passage than those three words.
Sometimes being silent is a sin. Ezekiel 3:18-19 “When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt
surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked
from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his
iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.19 Yet if thou warn the
wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall
die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.” it is our
responsibility to warn wicked person to turn from their wicked way, here Jesus
command us to judge people’s action and deeds with “Right judgment” Acts 4:19 “But Peter and John answered and said unto
them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than
unto God, judge ye.”. If your brother-sister sins, go and show him his fault in
private. You love him that does not mean all his/her all actions are equally
moral. Don’t encourage him/her in their wrong deeds or do not participate; Ephesians 5:11 “And have no fellowship with the
unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.” we love people
it does not mean we cannot have permission to choose between truth and error,
right and wrong. Do not participate in the unfruitful deed of darkness, but
instead even expose them. No wonder satan hates Christians so much—we will be
judging him one day! Hebrews 10:30 “For we know
him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the
Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.”
Elsewhere, Jesus gives a direct command to judge:
“Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly” John 7:24 “Judge not according to the appearance, but
judge righteous judgment.”. Passing judgment on someone based solely on appearances is
sinful (please Read Luke 7:36–50) and Proverbs 18:13 “He that answereth a matter before he
heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.”. Jesus’ warning
against hypocrisy and self-righteousness Matthew 7:3–5
“And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest
not the beam that is in thine own eye? 4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother,
Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own
eye? 5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then
shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.”, James 4:6 “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith,
God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.”, Luke 18:9–14 “And
he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were
righteous, and despised others 10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the
one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus
with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners,
unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. 12 I fast twice in the week, I
give tithes of all that I possess. 13 And the publican, standing afar off,
would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast,
saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. 14 I tell you, this man went down to
his house justified rather than the other for every one that exalteth himself
shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.” and Luke 19:1-10 “And Jesus entered and passed
through Jericho. 2 And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the
chief among the publicans, and he was rich. 3 And he sought to see Jesus who he
was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature. 4 And he
ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him for he was to pass
that way. 5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and
said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at
thy house. 6 And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully. 7 And
when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with
a man that is a sinner. 8 And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold,
Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing
from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold. 9 And Jesus said unto
him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of
Abraham. 10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
Jesus’ warning against self-righteousness, when we point
out the sin of others while we ourselves commit the same sin, we condemn
ourselves Romans 2:1 “Therefore thou art inexcusable, O
man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou
condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.”, Matthew 7:2 “For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be
judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.”. We are to
preach the whole counsel of God Acts 20:27
“For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.”; 2 Timothy 4:2 “Preach the word; be
instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all
longsuffering and doctrine.”. We are to speak
the truth in love Ephesians 4:15 “But speaking
the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even
Christ:”. We are to
gently avoid stumbling of our brothers or sisters in Christ Galatians 6:1 “Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a
fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness;
considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.”.
Now, let’s talk about being merciful! God wants
us to show compassion to the poor and needy. Jesus said that the poor would
always be with us Matthew 26:11 “For ye have
the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.”. He added those
who show mercy to the poor-the needy and the sick are in effect ministering to
Him personally Matthew 25:35–40 “For I was
an hungred, and ye gave me meat I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink I was a
stranger, and ye took me in 36 Naked, and ye clothed me I was sick, and ye
visited me I was in prison, and ye came unto me. 37 Then shall the righteous
answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or
thirsty, and gave thee drink? 38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in?
or naked, and clothed thee? 39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came
unto thee? 40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto
you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye
have done it unto me.” and will be rewarded accordingly. Matthew 5:7
“Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.”. Mercy desires
to answer the immediate needs of others, its addresses physical, emotional,
financial, or spiritual crises with generous, self-sacrificial service. It is
more than feeling sympathy toward someone; it is act of love.
Daniel 9:4-10
And I prayed
unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and
dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them
that keep his commandments;
5 We have
sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled,
even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments
6 Neither have
we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our
kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.
7 O Lord,
righteousness belongeth unto thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this
day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all
Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries whither
thou hast driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed
against thee.
8 O Lord, to
us belongeth confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our
fathers, because we have sinned against thee.
9 To the Lord
our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him;
10 Neither
have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in his laws, which he set
before us by his servants the prophets.
Psalms 79
O God, the
heathen are come into thine inheritance; thy holy temple have they defiled;
they have laid Jerusalem on heaps.
2 The dead
bodies of thy servants have they given to be meat unto the fowls of the heaven,
the flesh of thy saints unto the beasts of the earth.
3 Their blood
have they shed like water round about Jerusalem; and there was none to bury
them.
4 We are
become a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and derision to them that are
round about us.
5 How long,
LORD? wilt thou be angry for ever? shall thy jealousy burn like fire?
6 Pour out thy
wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that
have not called upon thy name.
7 For they
have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his dwelling place.
8 O remember
not against us former iniquities let thy tender mercies speedily prevent us for
we are brought very low.
9 Help us, O
God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name and deliver us, and purge away
our sins, for thy name's sake.
10 Wherefore
should the heathen say, Where is their God?
let him be known among the heathen in our sight by the revenging of the
blood of thy servants which is shed.
11 Let the
sighing of the prisoner come before thee; according to the greatness of thy
power preserve thou those that are appointed to die;
12 And render
unto our neighbours sevenfold into their bosom their reproach, wherewith they
have reproached thee, O Lord.
13 So we thy people
and sheep of thy pasture will give thee thanks for ever we will shew forth thy
praise to all generations

We all sinned n deserve GOD’s judgment, but our loving FATHER, GOD sent HIS only begotten SON to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in HIM. JESUS, our LORD who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that HE died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buries n rose from the dead according to the Holy Bible. If you truly believe n trust in your heart, receiving JESUS alone as your SAVIOUR, declaring (by Baptism) JESUS is The LORD n SAVIOUR, you will be SAVED from the judgment n spend ETERNITY with GOD in HEAVEN….
In The name of our LORD JESUS CHRIST.. Amen
