Lent – Day 13 –
Bible Study
2 Corinthians
1:3–4
Blessed be
God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the
God of all comfort;
4 Who
comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which
are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
The Holy Bible contains everything we need to be
“complete” 2 Timothy 3:15-17 “And that from a child thou
hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation
through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by
inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction,
for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect,
throughly furnished unto all good works.”. It is the Word
of God; written to His people,
Part of the “everything” we need is comfort. The Holy Bible has a lot to say
about comfort, In 2 Corinthians 1:3 “Blessed be God, even the Father of our
Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;”, God is called
the “Father of compassion” and the “God of all comfort”. In His mercy and love,
God is zealous to provide comfort to us in all circumstances.
Isaiah 1:16-20
Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your
doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;
17 Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the
oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD
though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be
red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good
of the land
20 But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with
the sword for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
Life is fraught with many difficulties. We all
experience setbacks in one way or another. Sometimes they are sudden and
sometimes they are slow. Proverbs 22:8 “He that
soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.” Whatever the
trial we face, our Heavenly Father knows the situation and offers comfort as
needed; When we turn our worries into prayers, “the God of peace will be with
us” Philippians 4:6–9 “Be careful for nothing; but in every
thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made
known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall
keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren,
whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are
just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever
things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise,
think on these things. 9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and
received, and heard, and seen in me, do and the God of peace shall be with you.”.
The fact that
He is The Almighty GOD of all comfort.
He is our source of peace and happiness and blessing, nothing gives us strength
and confidence like an understanding of the sovereignty of God in our lives.
Like grace,
comfort is an active, powerful gift 2 Corinthians
1:4 “Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort
them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are
comforted of God.”. We, believers in Christ have a comfort from our Heavenly
Father that includes a true freedom from guilt. For Christians, our righteous
Judge is also our loving Savior John 3:16–17 “For
God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent
not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him
might be saved.”. We know that
The Father is always with us, as He was with Moses Exodus 3:12 “And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.” So, too, are The Son Matthew 28:20 “I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”; John 14:18 “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.” and The Holy Spirit John 14:16–17 “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.”; All three Persons of the Trinity live with and in us—very close indeed! As a result, no past, present, or future distress can separate us from God, our Heavenly Father and His love for us in Christ and you can find all this promises in The Holy Bible. Romans 8:35 “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?”. The Holy Bible is the Word of God Isaiah 55:11 “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”, written by God’s servants under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit 2 Peter 1:21 “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” and provided as both a guide and an aide to our daily living. God’s Word is the–promises that the Lord makes to those who are prepared to trust Him. 2 Corinthians 13:14 “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.”.—we trust God’s promises, and He has promised to reward us accordingly with joy, peace, and comfort, intangible things that the world can never supply. One of the greatest ways the Bible comforts is Isaiah 26:3 “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”.

Isaiah
51:1-16
Hearken to me,
ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek the LORD look unto the rock
whence ye are hewn, and to the hole of the pit whence ye are digged.
2 Look unto
Abraham your father, and unto Sarah that bare you for I called him alone, and blessed
him, and increased him.
3 For the LORD
shall comfort Zion he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her
wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the LORD; joy and
gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody.
4 Hearken unto
me, my people; and give ear unto me, O my nation for a law shall proceed from
me, and I will make my judgment to rest for a light of the people.
5 My
righteousness is near; my salvation is gone forth, and mine arms shall judge
the people; the isles shall wait upon me, and on mine arm shall they trust.
6 Lift up your
eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath for the heavens shall
vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and they
that dwell therein shall die in like manner but my salvation shall be for ever,
and my righteousness shall not be abolished.
7 Hearken unto
me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; fear ye
not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings.
8 For the moth
shall eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like wool but my
righteousness shall be for ever, and my salvation from generation to
generation.
9 Awake,
awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD; awake, as in the ancient days, in
the generations of old. Art thou not it
that hath cut Rahab, and wounded the dragon?
10 Art thou
not it which hath dried the sea, the waters of the great deep; that hath made
the depths of the sea a way for the ransomed to pass over?
11 Therefore
the redeemed of the LORD shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and
everlasting joy shall be upon their head they shall obtain gladness and joy;
and sorrow and mourning shall flee away.
12 I, even I,
am he that comforteth you who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man
that shall die, and of the son of man which shall be made as grass;
13 And
forgettest the LORD thy maker, that hath stretched forth the heavens, and laid
the foundations of the earth; and hast feared continually every day because of
the fury of the oppressor, as if he were ready to destroy? and where is the fury of the oppressor?
14 The captive
exile hasteneth that he may be loosed, and that he should not die in the pit,
nor that his bread should fail.
15 But I am
the LORD thy God, that divided the sea, whose waves roared The LORD of hosts is
his name.
16 And I have
put my words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand,
that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say
unto Zion, Thou art my
people.
Matthew
23:1-12
Then spake
Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,
2 Saying, The
scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat
3 All
therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after
their works for they say, and do not.
4 For they
bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders;
but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.
5 But all
their works they do for to be seen of men they make broad their phylacteries,
and enlarge the borders of their garments,
6 And love the
uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
7 And
greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
8 But be not
ye called Rabbi for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.
9 And call no
man your father upon the earth for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
10 Neither be
ye called masters for one is your Master, even Christ.
11 But he that
is greatest among you shall be your servant.
12 And
whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself
shall be exalted.
Psalms 50
The mighty
God, even the LORD, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the
sun unto the going down thereof.
2 Out of Zion,
the perfection of beauty, God hath shined.
3 Our God
shall come, and shall not keep silence a fire shall devour before him, and it
shall be very tempestuous round about him.
4 He shall
call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people.
5 Gather my
saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.
6 And the
heavens shall declare his righteousness for God is judge himself. Selah.
7 Hear, O my
people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify against thee I am God,
even thy God.
8 I will not
reprove thee for thy sacrifices or thy burnt offerings, to have been
continually before me.
9 I will take
no bullock out of thy house, nor he goats out of thy folds.
10 For every
beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.
11 I know all
the fowls of the mountains and the wild beasts of the field are mine.
12 If I were
hungry, I would not tell thee for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.
13 Will I eat
the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?
14 Offer unto
God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High
15 And call
upon me in the day of trouble I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.
16 But unto
the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou
shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth?
17 Seeing thou
hatest instruction, and castest my words behind thee.
18 When thou
sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers.
19 Thou givest
thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit.
20 Thou
sittest and speakest against thy brother; thou slanderest thine own mother's
son.
21 These
things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was
altogether such an one as thyself but I will reprove thee, and set them in
order before thine eyes.
22 Now
consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none
to deliver.
23 Whoso
offereth praise glorifieth me and to him that ordereth his conversation aright
will I shew the salvation of God.
We all sinned n deserve GOD’s judgment, but our loving FATHER, GOD sent HIS only begotten SON to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in HIM. JESUS, our LORD who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that HE died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buries n rose from the dead according to the Holy Bible. If you truly believe n trust in your heart, receiving JESUS alone as your SAVIOUR, declaring (by Baptism) JESUS is The LORD n SAVIOUR, you will be SAVED from the judgment n spend ETERNITY with GOD in HEAVEN….
In The name of our LORD JESUS CHRIST.. Amen
