Lent – Day 27 – Bible Study
Jesus’ testimony about Himself required the
support of all God’s revelation. Otherwise, it would have been unacceptable.
The Father testified concerning the Son. The
Jews might not accept this testimony, but it was the testimony that mattered
most. “Ye sent unto John..” reference to the delegation from the Jewish
leaders to John the Baptist. John 5:33 “e sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth.” He bare witness. The testimony of John was
important, though not, of course, equal to the testimony of the Father. But had
the Jewish believed John, They would have believed Christ and would have been saved. In John 5:35 “He was” the past tense may
indicated that John was dead or least imprisoned. In any case, His work was
done. The Jewish leaders never came to grips with John’s message, and their
responses to him were always at best tentative and superficial.
As per the prophecy John was created the path
for the Jesus’ ministry Isaiah 40:3 “The voice of him that crieth in the
wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a
highway for our God.”, Malachi 3:1 “Behold, I will send my messenger, and he
shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly
come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in:
behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.”. In John 5:36 “Works” the miracle of Jesus,
which testified to what He is and to His Divine mission John
10:25 “Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I
do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me.”. The Father..hath borne witness His voice.
Probably a reference to God’s voice in the scriptures (See John 5:38-39). God
had also given His voice of approval at Jesus’ baptism Matthew
3:17 “And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am
well pleased.”. But Jesus’
listeners prided themselves on their attachment to Moses, their great lawgiver.
So it was an unexpected thrust for Jesus to say that Moses himself would accuse
them before God.
The Jews did not recognize what God was saying
as their failure to believe in God’s sent. They had their attention firmly
fixed on people. Their emphasis on self-seeking and on human praise show that
they did not accept THE ONE WHO CAME FROM GOD. And therefor they missed the
praise that comes from God.
Christ, The second person of the Holy Trinity
(Father, Son and Holy Ghost), is equal to the Father in nature, separate in person, yet
submissive in duties, as such.. He is God. The arguments for His deity are His
applying the title of deity of Himself, His speaking of God as uniquely His
Father, His making claim to deity, His using the YAHWISTIC “I AM”, and His
claiming to be equal with God in nature.
John
5:31-47
If I bear witness of
myself, my witness is not true.
32 There is another that
beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is
true.
33 Ye sent unto John, and
he bare witness unto the truth.
34 But I receive not
testimony from man but these things I say, that ye might be saved.
35 He was a burning and a
shining light and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.
36 But I have greater
witness than that of John for the works which the Father hath given me to
finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent
me.
37 And the Father
himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard
his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.
38 And ye have not his
word abiding in you for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.
39 Search the scriptures;
for in them ye think ye have eternal life and they are they which testify of
me.
40 And ye will not come
to me, that ye might have life.
41 I receive not honour
from men.
42 But I know you, that
ye have not the love of God in you.
43 I am come in my
Father's name, and ye receive me not if another shall come in his own name, him
ye will receive.
44 How can ye believe,
which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from
God only?
45 Do not think that I
will accuse you to the Father there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in
whom ye trust.
46 For had ye believed
Moses, ye would have believed me for he wrote of me.
47 But if ye believe not
his writings, how shall ye believe my words?
“These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of
the land of Egypt..” Exodus 32:7-14 How
easy it was for the Israelites to forget who brought them out of the land of
Egypt. God had promised that He will give them Canaan, the “Promised land” Genesis 12:7 “And the
LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and
there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.”, Numbers 14:8
“If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it
us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.”. According to His Promise, He
sent Moses to get the people out of Egypt and lead them into Canaan. Everything
was going as per plan until people started to murmuring against God and Moses
(See Exodus 16) so the promise got delayed because the people unbelief and
murmuring.
God performed signs and wonders, destroyed their enemies, guided
them and took good care of them yet they chose to doubt and grumble against God
(see Exodus 17:1-7). God was working in shifts to get them into the Promised land
but they didn’t enter because of what they did. God gave the Promise, God
brought them out, God led them towards the “Promised land” God, Who got hurt
that the people didn’t cooperate with Him and receive the Promise.. but they still unbelief His promise. God was
working for their Good but they worked against His work and missed the Good
they had to receive. All the generation who had seen miracles would die
wandering after the 40 years in the wilderness, because of their unbelief and
Impatience but the next generation had entered into “the promise land”.
So we see that they were not able to enter [into “His rest”—“the
promised land”] because of unbelief, Impatience mind and an unwillingness to
trust in God. Hebrews
3:19 “So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.”. How many times have we done the very same
thing? We become impatient with God when he takes longer than we expected in
answering prayers. We then choose to abandon that prayer and rely on earthly
things to fulfll us. For instance, after a traumatic experience, we often pray
for healing of our hearts and minds; Impatience raises
our stress level and can even cause physical harm to our bodies. However,
when it appears that God has forgotten us at the bottom of the mountain, do we
turn towards earthly healing in food, drink, or in material possessions? Let us
not forget who got us to this point in our lives - who brought us through
struggles in the past. Remain steadfast in the Lord. His timing is not our own,
and we know not what he is planning for us atop the mountain.
Disobedience and unbelief was the reason
people wandering in wilderness for 40 years, don’t be like them! We are living
in much better time than any Biblical people. We are free to attend any Church,
each of us has our own Bible in our language. There are millions of Christian
books, Christian websites, blogs and google have all answers.. We are BLESSED
generation, Thank God! Thn why we have the same mentality, same impatient
heart. Do we not believe in God’s promise? It is our human nature! God’s loves
is not based on our performance. It’s based on our relationship, WE ARE HIS
CHILDREN. He accept us with all our iniquities, mistakes, imperfectness and
still He loves us like His most precious creation.. “Flesh is weak” Mark
14:38 “Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is
ready, but the flesh is weak.” But the Spirit is wiling.. As a down payment
God gives us Holy Spirit until Jesus come back to take us with Him in Heaven
(Rapture, not second coming! Alright.. )
The Holy Spirit dwells in our hearts and gives us
power to live victorious life, Amen.. Romans 8:11 “But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the
dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken
your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.” The Holy Spirit has a massive role in Romans 8. I had found some
highlights from the book of John Piper, “the work of the Holy Spirit”,
specifically three ways he testifies that we are the children of God.
1 John 4:2-3 - Hereby
know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is
come in the flesh is of God:
1Jo:4:3: And every spirit
that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and
this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come;
and even now already is it in the world.
The first way the Spirit
testifies that you are a child of God is a heartfelt cry to a Father Romans
8:15 “For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but
they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.”.
The second way the Spirit
testifies that you are a child of God is a hatred in our hearts for our sin and
a desire to kill it.Romans 8:13 “For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die:
but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.”.
The third way the Spirit testifies
that you are a child of God is by highlighting the centrality and sufficiency
of Jesus. John 15:26 “But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you
from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he
shall testify of me:”.
The Holy Spirit enter into your heart when you decided to give
your life to Jesus Christ and get baptize with the water and the Spirit. And
the Holy Spirit teaches us all things, guide us into the truth.. New heart I
will give you… Ezekiel 36:26 “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I
put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I
will give you an heart of flesh.”.
John 16:13-15 “Howbeit
when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he
shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak:
and he will shew you things to come. 14He shall glorify me: for he shall
receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. 15 All things that the Father hath
are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto
you.”
Psalm
106:19-23
They
made a calf in Horeb, and worshipped the molten image.
20 Thus
they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eateth grass.
21 They
forgat God their saviour, which had done great things in Egypt;
22
Wondrous works in the land of Ham, and terrible things by the Red sea.
23
Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood
before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.
24 Yea,
they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word
25 But
murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the voice of the LORD.

Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the
wilderness
Exodus
32:7-14
And the LORD said unto
Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land
of Egypt, have corrupted themselves
8 They have turned aside
quickly out of the way which I commanded them they have made them a molten
calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be
thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
9 And the LORD said unto
Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people
10 Now therefore let me
alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them and
I will make of thee a great nation.
11 And Moses besought the
LORD his God, and said, LORD, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people,
which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and
with a mighty hand?
12 Wherefore should the
Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in
the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of
this evil against thy people.
13 Remember Abraham,
Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou swarest by thine own self, and
saidst unto them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all
this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and they shall
inherit it for ever.
14 And the LORD repented
of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.

We all sinned n deserve GOD’s judgment, but our loving FATHER, GOD sent HIS only begotten SON to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in HIM. JESUS, our LORD who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that HE died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buries n rose from the dead according to the Holy Bible. If you truly believe n trust in your heart, receiving JESUS alone as your SAVIOUR, declaring (by Baptism) JESUS is The LORD n SAVIOUR, you will be SAVED from the judgment n spend ETERNITY with GOD in HEAVEN….
