Lent – Day 34 – Bible Study
This is the third and final Passover mention by John (John 11:45-57). In all four Gospels the Pharisees appear as Jesus’ principal
opponents throughout His public ministry. The Pharisees had tried to kill Jesus
on several occasions but they lacked political power, and it is the chief
priest who were prominent in the events that led to Jesus’ crucifixion (Caiaphas
was high priest for 18 years; longer than any other high priest in the first
century). The Sadducees were willing to accomplish a through their political
union with the Roman power. Thus prophecy was fulfilled Psalm 22:1-18. Of course the Sadducees were particularly agitated by
Lazarus’s resurrection, since they did not believe in the resurrection.
However, their main concern with Jesus was that He might cause a Messianic
uprising John 11:48 “”. Unlike the Pharisees, their interest were political,
not religious: blasphemy or healing on the Sabbath did not practically disturb
them. Here both groups are associated in a meeting of the Sanhedrin, They did
not deny the reality of the Miraculous signs, but they did not understand their
meaning, FOR THEY FAILED TO BELIVE.
Note that: The Sanhedrin, “the high court
of the Jews”. In New Testament times it was made up of three kind of members:
Chief priest, elders, and scribes. It’s total membership numbers 71. Include
the High priest, who was presiding officer. Under Roman power this council was
given a great deal of authority, but they could not impose capital punishment John 18:31 “Then said
Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews
therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:”.
The purpose of Jesus
Christ's coming into the world is to re-establish God’s will and plan and lead
the world to its true destiny of union with God. The Son of
God, the Word became flesh John 1:14 “And the Word
was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of
the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”, the second person of the Holy Trinity who came into the world to
save all. It was God's will that they crucified Jesus, By
His crucifixion and death on the cross we have been receive salvation Romans
6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life
through Jesus Christ our Lord.”, Ephesians 2:8 “For by grace are ye saved
through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works,
lest any man should boast.”.
The
Law was not given us to be righteous, but it's given us to point out your
faults. If you broke the one commandment you will guilty for breaking all of
them. It shows us that, expect God we can’t able to be righteous by our own. If
we have not placed our faith in God's Son alone to save us from our sins, then
our pursuit of Holiness is in vain. We cannot own righteousness by keeping law
and doing righteous deed. But God doesn't created us to punish, but to
love. Have you ever heard that any father punished his own child for his
disability and weaknesses, for not being able to perform well? No one do that!
NOT even God. Than why does we always expecting God will punish us for our sin!
Accept the fact that we are FORGIVAN! Romans
8:2 "For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free
from the law of sin and death." and that’s why Christ Jesus Himself came into
this fallen world, born in flash, took our sins and died for us on the cross.
So we might took His place, His righteousness and became sons/ daughters of the
Almighty GOD by placing your faith on Him. 2 Corinthians 5:21 “For he hath made
him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness
of God in him.” (Jesus christ’s sacrifice
for all humanity, which fulfilled the symbolism of the yearly sin offering on
the Day of Atonement-Passover n He set down at the right side of GOD. )
John 11:45-57
Then many of the Jews
which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.
46 But some of them went
their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done.
47 Then gathered the
chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man
doeth many miracles.
48 If we let him thus
alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away
both our place and nation.
49 And one of them, named
Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing
at all,
50 Nor consider that it
is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole
nation perish not.
51 And this spake he not
of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should
die for that nation;
52 And not for that
nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God
that were scattered abroad.
53 Then from that day
forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.
54 Jesus therefore walked
no more openly among the Jews; but went thence unto a country near to the
wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples.
55 And the Jews' passover
was nigh at hand: and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the
passover, to purify themselves.
56 Then sought they for
Jesus, and spake among themselves, as they stood in the temple, What think ye,
that he will not come to the feast?
57 Now both the chief
priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where
he were, he should shew it, that they might take him.
Psalm 22:1-18
My God, my God, why hast
thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my
roaring?
2 O my God, I cry in the
day time, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent.
3 But thou art holy, O
thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.
4 Our fathers trusted in
thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them.
5 They cried unto thee,
and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded.
6 But I am a worm, and no
man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.
7 All they that see me
laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,
8 He trusted on the Lord
that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.
9 But thou art he that
took me out of the womb: thou didst make me hope when I was upon my mother's
breasts.
10 I was cast upon thee
from the womb: thou art my God from my mother's belly.
11 Be not far from me;
for trouble is near; for there is none to help.
12 Many bulls have
compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.
13 They gaped upon me
with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion.
14 I am poured out like
water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in
the midst of my bowels.
15 My strength is dried
up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me
into the dust of death.
16 For dogs have
compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my
hands and my feet.
17 I may tell all my
bones: they look and stare upon me.
18 They part my garments
among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.
Jeremiah 31:10-13
Hear the word of the
Lord, O ye nations, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say, He that
scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd doth his flock.
11 For the Lord hath
redeemed Jacob, and ransomed him from the hand of him that was stronger than
he.
12 Therefore they shall
come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow together to the goodness of
the Lord, for wheat, and for wine, and for oil, and for the young of the flock
and of the herd: and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall
not sorrow any more at all.
13 Then shall the virgin
rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their
mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their
sorrow.
Ezekiel 37:21-28
And say unto them, Thus
saith the Lord God; Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the
heathen, whither they be gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring
them into their own land:
22 And I will make them
one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king
to them all: and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be
divided into two kingdoms any more at all.
23 Neither shall they
defile themselves any more with their idols, nor with their detestable things,
nor with any of their transgressions: but I will save them out of all their
dwellingplaces, wherein they have sinned, and will cleanse them: so shall they
be my people, and I will be their God.
24 And David my servant
shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also
walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them.
25 And they shall dwell
in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant, wherein your fathers have
dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, even they, and their children, and their
children's children for ever: and my servant David shall be their prince for
ever.
26 Moreover I will make a
covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them: and
I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of
them for evermore.
27 My tabernacle also
shall be with them: yea, I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
28 And the heathen shall
know that I the Lord do sanctify Israel, when my sanctuary shall be in the
midst of them for evermore.

We all sinned n deserve GOD’s judgment, but our loving FATHER, GOD sent HIS only begotten SON to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in HIM. JESUS, our LORD who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that HE died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buries n rose from the dead according to the Holy Bible. If you truly believe n trust in your heart, receiving JESUS alone as your SAVIOUR, declaring (by Baptism) JESUS is The LORD n SAVIOUR, you will be SAVED from the judgment n spend ETERNITY with GOD in HEAVEN….
