Bible Study
The parable of lazarus and the rich man in luke
16 giving us great guidance about the use of earthly life and material riches, proper
perspective of greed, misgiving and the judgment of God; just like all of Jesus' parables
is basically an earthly story with a Heavenly meaning. He doesn't gave you life to
running after worldly things. It has no feelings, that doesn't makes you happy
but helping others is the secret to living a happy and healthy life, the brain
also releases feel-good chemicals in your body. Galatians 6:2 “Bear ye one another's burdens, and
so fulfil the law of Christ.”. God gives us the option to work toward something that is
earthly or eternal.
Luke 16:19-31
There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and
fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day
20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was
laid at his gate, full of sores,
21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the
rich man's table moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried
by the angels into Abraham's bosom the rich man also died, and was buried;
23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and
seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me,
and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my
tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime
receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things but now he is
comforted, and thou art tormented.
26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great
gulf fixed so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can
they pass to us, that would come from thence.
27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou
wouldest send him to my father's house
28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them,
lest they also come into this place of torment.
29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets;
let them hear them.
30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham but if one went unto them
from the dead, they will repent.
31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the
prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
Jesus' parable of Lazarus and rich man taught us
the two difference type of peoples! Those who live life like there's no
tomorrow, always expecting something bad to happen and worries never leave
their minds! 1 Peter 5:7 “Casting all your care upon Him; for He
careth for you.” and the other one is the person who knows his/her worth!
Daily life struggle doesn not affect his/her emotions and lifestyle; after all,
God brought us with giving a heavy price. Romans 5:6-11
“For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the
ungodly.7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die yet peradventure for a
good man some would even dare to die.8 But God commendeth his love toward us,
in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.9 Much more then, being
now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.10 For if,
when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much
more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.11 And not only so, but
we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received
the atonement.” and John 3:16-17 “For God so
loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth
in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.17 For God sent not his Son
into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be
saved.”.
Alright!
let's go back to the main point.. While the rich man was described in this
parable, as someone who had lived for the day and only focused on life here on
earth. His ignorance towards God put him in the judgment, because the rich man
did not repent and did not use his wealth to show mercy to the poor, no mercy
is shown to him in the afterlife. Matthew
23:23–24 “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of
mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law,
judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the
other undone.24 Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.” While, Lazarus
was described as a poor beggar who endured many hardships while trusting in God, that’s all God wants us to do! Proverbs 3:5-6
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own
understanding.6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
We are so busy living our life that we forget the
real meaning of it or I should say sometimes we are so busy living our fears
that we forget to live our dreams.. Not just live, Enjoy it!
In this parable the rich man represents the
Jews-Pharisees, and Lazarus outside the gate with the dogs represents
non-Jewish people-the Gentiles outside the rich man’s gate, people that
spiritually and physically sick, tax collectors, prostitutes, and demoniacs.
During the ministry of Jesus, many people turned to follow Him and hungered after
the "words of eternal life". They see the only hope in Him.. people
that seek the God, healing and forgiveness..As Jesus said those who seek, shall
find.. Matthew 7:7-8 “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and
ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8 For every one that
asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it
shall be opened.” The rich man always received good things besides he still
believes in his material riches, while Lazarus received bad things, he was ill
but he trust in our Eternal God. Proverbs 1:7 “The
fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and
instruction.”, Proverbs 2:10 “When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge
is pleasant unto thy soul;”, 1 Corinthians 12:8 “For to one is given by the
Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;”
knowing
Scripture helps us to understand that God’s children, like Lazarus, can suffer
while on this earth—suffering is one of the many tragic consequences of living
in a sinful and fallen world 1 Peter 1:23 “Being born
again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which
liveth and abideth for ever.” Trusting is believing in the promises of God in all
circumstances Mark 11:24 “Therefore I say unto you, What things
soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have
them.”,
Ephesians
2:8-9 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it
is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.”,
Philippians
4:6-7
“Be careful
for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving
let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth
all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”,
Proverbs 3:6
“In all thy
ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”,

“Thou wilt
keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in
thee.”,

“Thy

the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine
both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.”,

therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth
covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a
thousand generations;”,

“All the paths
of the LORD are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his

“For I know
the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and
not of evil, to give you an expected end.”

“Though he
slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.
16 He also
shall be my salvation: for an hypocrite shall not come before him.
17 Hear
diligently my speech, and my declaration with your ears.”
Jeremiah
17:5-10
Thus saith the
LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and
whose heart departeth from the LORD.
6 For he shall
be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall
inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.
7 Blessed is
the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.
8 For he shall
be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the
river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and
shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding
fruit.
9 The heart is
deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked who can know it?
10 I the LORD
search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his
ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.
Ps 1
Blessed is the
man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of
sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his
delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and
night.
3 And he shall
be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in
his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall
prosper.
4 The ungodly
are not so but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
5 Therefore
the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of
the righteous.
6 For the LORD
knoweth the way of the righteous but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

28:1-68 and Hebrews 11
We all sinned n deserve GOD’s judgment, but our loving FATHER, GOD sent HIS only begotten SON to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in HIM. JESUS, our LORD who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that HE died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buries n rose from the dead according to the Holy Bible. If you truly believe n trust in your heart, receiving JESUS alone as your SAVIOUR, declaring (by Baptism) JESUS is The LORD n SAVIOUR, you will be SAVED from the judgment n spend ETERNITY with GOD in HEAVEN….
