First Sunday
of Advent: HOPE
The season of Advent is a time to think about the great
sacrifice that our LORD n Saviour, JESUS CHRIST, made for us by coming to earth
as an infant. He lived a perfect life, died a sacrificial death, n rose from
the dead for us. He saved us from our sins n eternal damnation because of His
great love, n adopts each person individually into The KINGDOM of GOD through
baptism n faith in Him. This season is also a prime opportunity to affirm the
promise of JESUS that just as He came once, He will return for us(Church).
JESUS CHRIST will return. We are waiting for
this event now. JESUS said He would return “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive
you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” John 14:3, the Angels
said He would return “Which also
said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus,
which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have
seen him go into heaven.”Acts 1:11, n the epistles say He will return for Rapture. JESUS could come back
at any time for His Church (us). It will be announced by the voice of the Archangel
n GOD’s trumpet call. The bodies of those who have died will be raised to be
joined with their souls, n then the bodies of Christian still living on earth
will be changed into a body like the LORD’s resurrection body. The Christian believers
raised from the dead n the believers living at CHRIST’s return will meet the
LORD in the air n be taken to HEAVEN. we will “fly the friendly skies united”
“But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them
which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 14 For
if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in
Jesus will God bring with him. 15 For this we say unto you by the word of the
Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not
prevent them which are asleep. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from
heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God
and the dead in Christ shall rise first 17 Then we which are alive and remain
shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the
air and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another
with these words.” 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18.
This will happen in the twinkling of an eye “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the
trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall
be changed.”1 Corinthians 15:52.
JESUS is our Blessed hope, n no one can take
that hope away. “And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in
our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” Romans 5:5. while we wait
for the Blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great GOD n Saviour,
JESUS CHRIST, “Teaching us that, denying
ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly,
in this present world; 13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious
appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;” Titus 2:12–13 says that the
grace of GOD teaches us “to live self-controlled, upright n Godly lives in this
present age. This passage identifies the “blessed hope” as the glorious
appearing of JESUS CHRIST, our great GOD n Savior. JESUS’ return will be an
amazing, joyful experience for the believer in CHRIST. We will be blessed
beyond measure when we see CHRIST. The trials of this life will be over, n we
will see that “For I reckon that the
sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory
which shall be revealed in us.” Romans 8:18.
This season is also a prime opportunity to affirm the promise of
JESUS that just as He came once, He would one day in the future return to the
earth as Sovereign Ruler n this is the second coming (with saints) .
We all
have this GLORIOUS Hope
The people
that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of
the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
Isaiah 9:2
That being
justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of
eternal life.
Titus 3:7
And in
this mountain shall the LORD of hosts make unto all people a feast of fat
things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on
the lees well refined.
7 And he
will destroy in this mountain the face of the covering cast over all people,
and the vail that is spread over all nations.
8 He will
swallow up death in victory; and the LORD GOD will wipe away tears from off all
faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth
for the LORD hath spoken it.
9 And it
shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our GOD; we have waited for him, and he
will save us this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and
rejoice in his salvation.
10 For in
this mountain shall the hand of the LORD rest, and Moab shall be trodden down
under him, even as straw is trodden down for the dunghill.
11 And he
shall spread forth his hands in the midst of them, as he that swimmeth
spreadeth forth his hands to swim and he shall bring down their pride together
with the spoils of their hands.
12 And the
fortress of the high fort of thy walls shall he bring down, lay low, and bring
to the ground, even to the dust.
1 In that
day shall this song be sung in the land of Judah; We have a strong city;
salvation will GOD appoint for walls and bulwarks.
2 Open ye
the gates, that the righteous nation which keepeth the truth may enter in.
3 Thou
wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee because he
trusteth in thee.
4 Trust ye
in the LORD for ever for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength
5 For he
bringeth down them that dwell on high; the lofty city, he layeth it low; he
layeth it low, even to the ground; he bringeth it even to the dust.
6 The foot
shall tread it down, even the feet of the poor, and the steps of the needy.
Isaiah
25:6-26:6
Behold my
servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my
spirit upon him he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.
2 He shall
not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.
3 A
bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench he
shall bring forth judgment unto truth.
4 He shall
not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth and the
isles shall wait for his law.
5 Thus
saith GOD the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he
that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth
breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein
6 I the LORD
have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep
thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;
7 To open
the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit
in darkness out of the prison house.
8 I am the
LORD that is my name and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise
to graven images.
9 Behold,
the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare before they
spring forth I tell you of them.
Isaiah 42:
1-9
Hear, all
ye people; hearken, O earth, and all that therein is: and let the LORD GOD be
witness against you, the LORD from his holy temple.
3 For,
behold, the LORD cometh forth out of his place, and will come down, and tread
upon the high places of the earth.
Micah
1:2-3
Just as, the day He ascended into HEAVEN, two Angels appeared n
gave His disciples peace n comfort with this promise.. “Which
also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same JESUS,
which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have
seen him go into heaven.”
Acts 1:11
The Apostle Paul revealed that.. “For the LORD
Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the
archangel, and with the trump of GOD: and the dead in CHRIST shall rise first:” I
Thessalonians 4:16
He will then be revealed as Sovereign of the Universe - King of
Kings n LORD of LORDs, n Victor over death, hell n the grave.
And there
shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the
earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
26 Men's
hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are
coming on the earth for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
27 And
then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great
glory.
28 And
when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads;
for your redemption draweth nigh.
29 And he
spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees;
30 When
they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now
nigh at hand.
31 So
likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of
GOD is nigh at hand.
32 Verily
I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled.
33 Heaven
and earth shall pass away but my words shall not pass away.
34 And
take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with
surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon
you unawares.
35 For as
a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.
36 Watch
ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all
these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
37 And in
the day time he was teaching in the temple; and at night he went out, and abode
in the mount that is called the mount of Olives.
38 And all
the people came early in the morning to him in the temple, for to hear him.
Luke 21:
25-36
We can have hope because GOD is faithful n will keep the
promises made to us. Our hope comes from
GOD J
May our lives, our thoughts, n our words reflect our desire for
the soon-coming return of JESUS, our glorious King! Amen..
How
beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings,
that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth
salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy GOD reigneth!
8 Thy
watchmen shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall they sing for
they shall see eye to eye, when the LORD shall bring again Zion.
9 Break
forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem for the LORD hath
comforted his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem.
10 The LORD
hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of
the earth shall see the salvation of our GOD.
Isaiah
52:7-10
Oh that
thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the
mountains might flow down at thy presence,
2 As when
the melting fire burneth, the fire causeth the waters to boil, to make thy name
known to thine adversaries, that the nations may tremble at thy presence!
3 When
thou didst terrible things which we looked not for, thou camest down, the
mountains flowed down at thy presence.
4 For
since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear,
neither hath the eye seen, O GOD, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him
that waiteth for him.
5 Thou
meetest him that rejoiceth and worketh righteousness, those that remember thee
in thy ways behold, thou art wroth; for we have sinned in those is continuance,
and we shall be saved.
6 But we
are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags;
and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us
away.
7 And
there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold
of thee for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of
our iniquities.
8 But now,
O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all
are the work of thy hand.
9 Be not
wroth very sore, O LORD, neither remember iniquity for ever behold, see, we
beseech thee, we are all thy people.

The Advent wreath circle reminds us of YHWH Himself, eternal n
endlessly merciful. It is evergreen - reminding us of the hope of eternal life.
The light of the candles reminds us of the Light of world, n the prophetic
promise of His coming. The white central candles of the Advent wreath, lighted
at CHRISTmas, reminds us of the fulfillment of His first Advent n the pure,
humble means by which He came.
“And
again, Isaiah says, ‘The Root of Jesse will spring up, one who will arise to
rule over the nations; the Gentiles will hope in him.’ May the GOD of hope fill you with all joy n
peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of
the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:12-13

Owe no man any
thing, but to love one another for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the
law.
9 For this,
Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou
shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other
commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love
thy neighbour as thyself.
10 Love
worketh no ill to his neighbour therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
11 And that,
knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep for now is our
salvation nearer than when we believed.
12 The night
is far spent, the day is at hand let us therefore cast off the works of
darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
13 Let us walk
honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and
wantonness, not in strife and envying.
14 But put ye
on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the
lusts thereof.
Romans 13:8-14
And when they
drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives,
then sent Jesus two disciples,
2 Saying unto
them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an
ass tied, and a colt with her loose them, and bring them unto me.
3 And if any
man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and
straightway he will send them.
4 All this was
done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying,
5 Tell ye the
daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an
ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.
6 And the
disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them,
7 And brought
the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon.
8 And a very
great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from
the trees, and strawed them in the way.
9 And the
multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the
Son of David Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the
highest.
10 And when he
was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this?
11 And the
multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.
12 And Jesus
went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the
temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them
that sold doves,
13 And said
unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye
have made it a den of thieves.
Matthew
21:1-13
I wait for
the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope.
Ps 130:5
Blessed be
the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant
mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus
Christ from the dead,
1 Peter
1:3
But
sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to
every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and
fear:
1 Peter
3:15
And hope
maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the
Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
Romans 5:5
Therefore
I will look unto the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will
hear me.
Micah 7:7
We all sinned n deserve GOD’s judgment. But our loving FATHER, GOD sent HIS only begotten SON to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in HIM. JESUS, our LORD who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that HE died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buries n rose from the dead according to the Holy Bible. If you truly believe n trust in your heart, receiving JESUS alone as your SAVIOUR, declaring (by Baptism) JESUS is The LORD n SAVIOUR, you will be SAVED from the judgment n spend ETERNITY with GOD in HEAVEN….
