Lent – Day 5 –
Bible Study
God is Holy Isaiah 6:3 “Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD of hosts: the
whole earth is full of his glory.” and Revelation 4:8 “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is,
and is to come.” . God calls us to be Holy and just as He is 1 Peter 1:16 “Because it is written, Be ye Holy; for I am Holy.”. To be Holy means to be set apart or separate from sin and
evil. 1 John 1:5 “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and
declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” but it’s vital to
understand that apart from God this is impossible 1 Sam 2:2 “There is none Holy as the LORD: for there is
none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.”. None of us will
reach sinless perfection in this world, but God has made
provision for our sin. 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our
sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from
all unrighteousness.”.
Of course, the flesh is weak Mark 14:38 “Watch ye
and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the
flesh is weak.”. Whereas we were “once foolish, disobedient, slaves to various passions
and pleasures . . . and satan would love nothing more than to bring us back
into bondage through disobedience But we have the promise 1 John 4:4 “Ye are of
God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in
you, than he that is in the world.”. Remember, Holiness only results from a right
relationship with God by believing in Lord Jesus Christ as Savior (accepting
His gift of eternal life). We can only live a Holy life through the power of
the Spirit; thus, the first step to living a Holy life is to accept Jesus as
Savior Ephesians 1:13 “In whom ye also trusted,
after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom
also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise”. God helps us in our weakness by giving us His Holy
Spirit who reveals the mind of Christ to us and enables us to carry out His
will 1 Corinthians 2:14-16
“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they
are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are
spiritually discerned. 15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he
himself is judged of no man. 16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that
he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.” and Philippians 2:13 “For it is
God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” (Fruit
of The Spirit and Galatians
5:22-23) and The Holy Spirit will produce Christlikeness in us so we can live
a Holy life Galatians 5:16 “Walk in the Spirit…..”. God isn't calling us
to be perfect, but to be distinct from the world. In 1 Peter 2:9 describes us as
"a Holy nation." It is a fact! We are separated from the world; we
need to live out that reality in our daily life.
Ps 51
Have mercy upon me, O
God, according to thy lovingkindness according unto the multitude of thy tender
mercies blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me throughly from
mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I acknowledge my
transgressions and my sin is ever before me.
4 Against thee, thee
only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight that thou mightest be
justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.
5 Behold, I was shapen in
iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.
6 Behold, thou desirest
truth in the inward parts and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know
wisdom.
7 Purge me with hyssop,
and I shall be clean wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8 Make me to hear joy and
gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.
9 Hide thy face from my
sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean
heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from
thy presence; and take not thy Holy spirit from me.
12 Restore unto me the
joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
13 Then will I teach
transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
14 Deliver me from
bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation and my tongue shall sing aloud
of thy righteousness.
15 O Lord, open thou my
lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.
16 For thou desirest not
sacrifice; else would I give it thou delightest not in burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God
are a broken spirit a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not
despise.
18 Do good in thy good
pleasure unto Zion build thou the walls of Jerusalem.
19 Then shalt thou be
pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole
burnt offering then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.
We can live a Holy
life by being obedient to God in all areas of life 1 Peter 1:14–16 “As obedient children, not fashioning
yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: 15 But as he which
hath called you is Holy, so be ye Holy in all manner of conversation; 16
Because it is written, Be ye Holy; for I am Holy.”. Knowing and obeying God’s Word is key John 17:17 “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is
truth.”. Hiding God’s Word in our hearts keeps us from sin Psalm 119:11. When we live in obedience to God, we are
staying separate from evil. By living a Holy life- obedience life we glorify our Heavenly
Father and display His nature to those around us Matthew 5:16
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and
glorify your Father which is in Heaven.”. Remember, we are not
trying to live a Holy life in order to earn salvation; living a Holy life is a
natural outgrowth of being saved by God’s grace and filled with His Spirit; it’s
an amazing grace of Almighty God for us to living in true freedom from the
bondage of sin Romans 6:6 “Knowing this,
that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be
destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.”.
My friend, we must first make sure we are born-again
(Baptized) believers see Mark 16:16 “He that believeth and is baptized shall be
saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.”. If we truly are believers, then we recognize that our
position in Christ automatically sets us apart from the world 1 Peter 2:9 “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood,
an Holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye
should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into
his marvelous light:”.
One
day, in Heaven, we will be free from sin and all its effects. Until then, Our
Heavenly Father wants us to live according to His standard so the world would
know we belongs to Him… After all, we have a relationship with the living God J
That’s why we fix
our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith and keep running our
race Hebrews 12:2 “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher
of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross,
despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”. And yes!… It is also important to not give up when we mess
up. When we fail, our response should be to confess the sin and keep moving
forward in our Christian walk 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our
sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from
all unrighteousness.”. Romans 8:1 “There is therefore
now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the
flesh, but after the Spirit.” God’s grace doesn’t go away when we make
mistakes.
Matthew 6:5-15
And when thou prayest,
thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are for they love to pray standing in the
synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men.
Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
6 But thou, when thou
prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy
Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward
thee openly.
7 But when ye pray, use
not vain repetitions, as the heathen do for they think that they shall be heard
for their much speaking.
8 Be not ye therefore
like unto them for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye
ask him.
9 After this manner
therefore pray ye Our Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy
will be done in earth, as it is in Heaven.
11 Give us this day our
daily bread.
12 And forgive us our
debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from evil For thine is the kingdom, and the power,
and the glory, for ever. Amen.
14 For if ye forgive men
their trespasses, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you
15 But if ye forgive not
men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Ps 19:8-10
The statutes of the LORD
are right, rejoicing the heart the commandment of the LORD is pure,
enlightening the eyes.
9 The fear of the LORD is
clean, enduring for ever the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous
altogether.
10 More to be desired are
they than gold, yea, than much fine gold sweeter also than honey and the
honeycomb.
Levi 19:1-2
And the LORD spake unto
Moses, saying,
2 Speak unto all the
congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be Holy:
for I the LORD your God am Holy.
Levi 19:11-18
Ye shall not steal,
neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another.
12 And ye shall not swear
by my name falsely, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God I am the
LORD.
13 Thou shalt not defraud
thy neighbour, neither rob him the wages of him that is hired shall not abide
with thee all night until the morning.
14 Thou shalt not curse
the deaf, nor put a stumblingblock before the blind, but shalt fear thy God I
am the LORD.
15 Ye shall do no
unrighteousness in judgment thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor
honour the person of the mighty but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy
neighbour.
16 Thou shalt not go up
and down as a talebearer among thy people neither shalt thou stand against the
blood of thy neighbour I am the LORD.
17 Thou shalt not hate
thy brother in thine heart thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not
suffer sin upon him.
18 Thou shalt not avenge,
nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy
neighbour as thyself I am the LORD.
Matthew 25:31-46
When the Son of man shall
come in his glory, and all the Holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the
throne of his glory
32 And before him shall
be gathered all nations and he shall separate them one from another, as a
shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats
33 And he shall set the
sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
34 Then shall the King
say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the
kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world
35 For I was an hungred,
and ye gave me meat I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink I was a stranger, and
ye took me in
36 Naked, and ye clothed
me I was sick, and ye visited me I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
37 Then shall the
righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee?
or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38 When saw we thee a
stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39 Or when saw we thee
sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40 And the King shall
answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it
unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
41 Then shall he say also
unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire,
prepared for the devil and his angels
42 For I was an hungred,
and ye gave me no meat I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink
43 I was a stranger, and
ye took me not in naked, and ye clothed me not sick, and in prison, and ye
visited me not.
44 Then shall they also
answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger,
or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
45 Then shall he answer
them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the
least of these, ye did it not to me.
46 And these shall go
away into everlasting punishment but the righteous into life eternal.

We all sinned n deserve GOD’s judgment, but our loving FATHER, GOD sent HIS only begotten SON to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in HIM. JESUS, our LORD who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that HE died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buries n rose from the dead according to the Holy Bible. If you truly believe n trust in your heart, receiving JESUS alone as your SAVIOUR, declaring (by Baptism) JESUS is The LORD n SAVIOUR, you will be SAVED from the judgment n spend ETERNITY with GOD in HEAVEN….
