Third Sunday
of Advent: JOY
The third week of Advent is about the joy
that is ours because God has entered the world. When we look at the third
candle, we remember God's promise of joy. God promised to send a Savior to the
people.
The people
that walked in darkness have seen a great light they that dwell in the land of
the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
3 Thou hast
multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy they joy before thee according
to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.
4 For thou
hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of
his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.
5 For every
battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but
this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.
6 For unto us
a child is born, unto us a son is given and the government shall be upon his
shoulder and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God,
The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
7 Of the
increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of
David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and
with justice from henceforth even for ever.
The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
Isaiah 9:2-7
And in that
day thou shalt say, O LORD, I will praise thee though thou wast angry with me,
thine anger is turned away, and thou comfortedst me.
2 Behold, God
is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid for the LORD JEHOVAH is my
strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.
3 Therefore
with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.
4 And in that
day shall ye say, Praise the LORD, call upon his name, declare his doings among
the people, make mention that his name is exalted.
5 Sing unto
the LORD; for he hath done excellent things this is known in all the earth.
6 Cry out and
shout, thou inhabitant of Zion for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst
of thee.
Isaiah 12
The wilderness
and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice,
and blossom as the rose.
2 It shall
blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing the glory of Lebanon
shall be given unto it, the excellency of Carmel and Sharon, they shall see the
glory of the LORD, and the excellency of our God.
3 Strengthen
ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees.
4 Say to them
that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not behold, your God will come
with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you.
5 Then the
eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.
6 Then shall
the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing for in the
wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.
7 And the
parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water in
the habitation of dragons, where each lay, shall be grass with reeds and
rushes.
8 And an
highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness;
the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those the wayfaring
men, though fools, shall not err therein.
9 No lion
shall be there, nor any ravenous beast shall go up thereon, it shall not be
found there; but the redeemed shall walk there
10 And the
ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting
joy upon their heads they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing
shall flee away.
Isaiah 35
Today we read from the Gospel of Luke. This
Scripture can guide us to look for the joy of God even when things may be
uncertain for us.
And in the
sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named
Nazareth,
27 To a virgin
espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the
virgin's name was Mary.
28 And the
angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord
is with thee blessed art thou among women.
29 And when
she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner
of salutation this should be.
30 And the
angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary for thou hast found favour with God.
31 And,
behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call
his name JESUS.
32 He shall be
great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest and the Lord God shall give
unto him the throne of his father David
33 And he
shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be
no end.
34 Then said
Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
35 And the
angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the
power of the Highest shall overshadow thee therefore also that holy thing which
shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
36 And,
behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age and
this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.
37 For with
God nothing shall be impossible.
38 And Mary
said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And
the angel departed from her.
Luke 1:26-38
And Mary said,
My soul doth magnify the Lord,
47 And my
spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
48 For he hath
regarded the low estate of his handmaiden for, behold, from henceforth all
generations shall call me blessed.
49 For he that
is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.
50 And his
mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.
51 He hath
shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of
their hearts.
52 He hath put
down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.
53 He hath
filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.
54 He hath
holpen his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy;
55 As he spake
to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever.
Luke 1:46-55
We look back with joy and wonder that God would
come into the world, and we look forward to His return, expecting the great unceasing
joy that He has promised us!
Let a man so
account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of
God.
2 Moreover it
is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.
3 But with me
it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man's judgment
yea, I judge not mine own self.
4 For I know
nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified but he that judgeth me is the
Lord.
5 Therefore
judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to
light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the
hearts and then shall every man have praise of God.
1 Corinthians
4:1-5
Now the God of
patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another
according to Christ Jesus
6 That ye may
with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ.
7 Wherefore
receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God.
8 Now I say
that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to
confirm the promises made unto the fathers
9 And that the
Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this cause I
will confess to thee among the Gentiles, and sing unto thy name.
10 And again
he saith, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people.
11 And again,
Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; and laud him, all ye people.
12 And again,
Esaias saith, There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that shall rise to reign
over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust.
13 Now the God
of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in
hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
14 And I
myself also am persuaded of you, my brethren, that ye also are full of
goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another.
15
Nevertheless, brethren, I have written the more boldly unto you in some sort,
as putting you in mind, because of the grace that is given to me of God,
16 That I
should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel
of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being
sanctified by the Holy Ghost.
17 I have
therefore whereof I may glory through Jesus Christ in those things which
pertain to God.
18 For I will
not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ hath not wrought by me,
to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed,
19 Through
mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from
Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of
Christ.
20 Yea, so
have I strived to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should
build upon another man's foundation
21 But as it
is written, To whom he was not spoken of, they shall see and they that have not
heard shall understand.
22 For which
cause also I have been much hindered from coming to you.
Romans 15:5-22
Now when John
had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,
3 And said
unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?
4 Jesus
answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do
hear and see
5 The blind
receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf
hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
6 And blessed
is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
7 And as they
departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye
out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
8 But what
went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear
soft clothing are in kings' houses.
9 But what
went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a
prophet.
10 For this is
he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which
shall prepare thy way before thee.
Matthew
11:2-10
But of the
times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
2 For
yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the
night.
3 For when
they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as
travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
4 But ye,
brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
5 Ye are all
the children of light, and the children of the day we are not of the night, nor
of darkness.
6 Therefore
let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
7 For they
that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the
night.
8 But let us,
who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and
for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
9 For God hath
not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 Who died
for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
11 Wherefore
comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.
12 And we
beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in
the Lord, and admonish you;
13 And to
esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among
yourselves.
14 Now we
exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded,
support the weak, be patient toward all men.
15 See that
none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good,
both among yourselves, and to all men.
16 Rejoice
evermore.
17 Pray
without ceasing.
18 In every
thing give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
19 Quench not
the Spirit.
20 Despise not
prophesyings.
21 Prove all
things; hold fast that which is good.
22 Abstain
from all appearance of evil.
23 And the
very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and
soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Faithful is
he that calleth you, who also will do it.
25 Brethren,
pray for us.
26 Greet all
the brethren with an holy kiss.
27 I charge
you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.
28 The grace
of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

I am the true
vine, and my Father is the husbandman. 2 Every branch in me that beareth not
fruit he taketh away and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that
it may bring forth more fruit. 3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have
spoken unto you. 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit
of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
5 I am the vine, ye are the branches He that abideth in me, and I in him, the
same bringeth forth much fruit for without me ye can do nothing. 6 If a man
abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather
them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If ye abide in me,
and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto
you. 8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be
my disciples. 9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you continue ye in
my love. 10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I
have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. 11 These things have
I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be
full. 12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his
friends. 14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. 15 Henceforth
I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth but I
have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have
made known unto you. 16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained
you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain
that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. 17
These things I command you, that ye love one another. 18 If the world hate you,
ye know that it hated me before it hated you. 19 If ye were of the world, the
world would love his own but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen
you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. 20 Remember the word that
I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have
persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they
will keep yours also. 21 But all these things will they do unto you for my
name's sake, because they know not him that sent me. 22 If I had not come and
spoken unto them, they had not had sin but now they have no cloke for their
sin. 23 He that hateth me hateth my Father also. 24 If I had not done among
them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin but now have they
both seen and hated both me and my Father. 25 But this cometh to pass, that the
word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a
cause. 26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the
Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall
testify of me 27 And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me
from the beginning.

Now Moses kept
the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian and he led the
flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to
Horeb.
2 And the
angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a
bush and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was
not consumed.
3 And Moses
said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not
burnt.
4 And when the
LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of
the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he
said, Here am I.
5 And he said,
Draw not nigh hither put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon
thou standest is holy ground.
6 Moreover he
said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the
God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face;
for he was afraid to look upon God.
7 And the LORD
said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and
have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;
8 And I am
come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them
up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk
and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the
Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.
9 Now
therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me and I have
also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them.
10 Come now
therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my
people the children of Israel out of Egypt.
11 And Moses
said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring
forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?
12 And he
said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that
I have sent thee When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall
serve God upon this mountain.
13 And Moses
said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say
unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to
me, What is his name? what shall I say
unto them?
14 And God
said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the
children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
15 And God
said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The
LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of
Jacob, hath sent me unto you this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial
unto all generations.

And the child
Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli.
And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open
vision.
2 And it came
to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began
to wax dim, that he could not see;
3 And ere the
lamp of God went out in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was, and
Samuel was laid down to sleep;
4 That the
LORD called Samuel and he answered, Here am I.
5 And he ran
unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down
again. And he went and lay down.
6 And the LORD
called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel
arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie
down again.
7 Now Samuel
did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed unto
him.
8 And the LORD
called Samuel again the third time. And
he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the LORD had called
the child.
9 Therefore
Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou
shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
10 And the
LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant
heareth.

JESUS, our LORD who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that HE died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buries n rose from the dead according to the Holy Bible. If you truly believe n trust in your heart, receiving JESUS alone as your SAVIOUR, declaring (by Baptism) JESUS is The LORD n SAVIOUR, you will be SAVED from the judgment n spend ETERNITY with GOD in HEAVEN….
In The name of our LORD JESUS CHRIST.. Amen
