Lent – Day 8 –
Bible Study
.
Matthew 6:19-33
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth,
where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven,
where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break
through nor steal
21 For where your treasure is, there will your
heart be also.
22 The light of the body is the eye if therefore
thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall
be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how
great is that darkness!
24 No man can serve two masters for either he
will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and
despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for
your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body,
what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than
raiment?
26 Behold the fowls of the air for they sow not,
neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth
them. Are ye not much better than they?
27 Which of you by taking thought can add one
cubit unto his stature?
28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider
the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin
29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in
all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the
field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much
more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall
we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles
seek) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his
righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
It is rare
nowadays to find someone who is truly satisfied with his/her condition in life--being
satisfied with what we have, who we are, and where we’re going. It is
challenging to being mentally or emotionally satisfied with things as they are.
But Holy Bible has a great and real deal to say about satisfaction— God has
given us a direct command not to worry about the things of this world. Jesus said,
Matthew 6:25 “Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought
for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your
body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than
raiment?”, and then He
added, Matthew 6:32-33 “For after all these things do the
Gentiles seek: for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these
things. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all
these things shall be added unto you.”.
To worry means
we do not trust God. “Be satisfied with such things as you have” means as
believers such should be our trust and confidence in God that we should be
satisfied with our condition regardless of our circumstances. Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together
for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his
purpose.”[Understand that lack of satisfaction is kind of sin and it
puts us in the same category as those who do not know God.] Paul knew the
secret of satisfaction; he said in Philippians
4:12-13 “I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound:
every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry,
both to abound and to suffer need.13 I can do all things through Christ which
strengtheneth me.”. and he added, Hebrews 13:5-6
“Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things
as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 6 So
that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man
shall do unto me.” ,Yet people continue to seek after more worldly things,
never satisfied with their lot in life. They have to understand that life is
not food, job, money, stupid things and etc., Life is a gift that God gives
us—NOT to waste but to live. 1 Peter 5:6-7 “Humble
yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due
time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”.
Matthew 7:7-12
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye
shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you
8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he
that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son
ask bread, will he give him a stone?
10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a
serpent?
11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good
gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven
give good things to them that ask him?
12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that
men should do to you, do ye even so to them for this is the law and the
prophets.
If it’s worth worrying about, then it’s worth Praying about. Prayer is how we
communicate our needs and desires to God. However, the more time we spends in
communion with God, the more we will know what to ask for in accordance with
God’s will. Jesus said, Matthew 7:7 “Ask and you
will receive it”. And Matthew 7:7 “Seek, and
you will find” Matthew 7:7. Ask in Jesus
name and pray according to the
will of God, for the will of God is what Jesus always did John 6:38 “For I came down from heaven,
not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.”. He then said,
“Knock and the door will be opened to you” Matthew 7:7. Ask, seek,
knock are three different senses. Asking is verbal; we should pray/ask to God
for our needs and desires but what we are to seek with our mind—this is more
than asking; it is a setting of our priorities and a focusing of our heart. To
knock involves physical movement, to takes an action. Although asking and
seeking are of great importance, they would be incomplete without any act. And the last and most important
thing-- God said, “Seek My face” , Psalm 27:8 Jesus said, Matthew 6:33 “seek first His
Kingdom and His Righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you” and
Psalm 34:10 “The young
lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing”. Psalm 105:4 “Seek the Lord
and his strength; seek his presence continually!” and Psalm 119:2 “Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who
seek him with their whole heart”. God is not hiding from His children. His heart’s
desire is for us to passionately look for Him all around us, and when we do, He
promises He will be found Proverbs 8:17 “I love them
that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.”. it is a matter
of paying attention with an engaged mind and acute awareness. This is the key
to overcoming the frustration and lack of faith is to find out who God really
is and how He has been faithful to supply the needs of His people in the past.
Such study will grow one’s confidence and trust for the future. But, Jesus is not saying that we always get what we ask
for James 4:3 “Ye ask, and receive not,
because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.” , God knows
what is good for us and is faithful and sometimes loving to say “no” to foolish
prayers or delay. God will always give us good things. Our job is to understand
what is good and wait patiently for Him for our good.
Psalms 138
I will praise thee with my whole heart before the
gods will I sing praise unto thee.
2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and
praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth for thou hast
magnified thy word above all thy name.
3 In the day when I cried thou answeredst me, and
strengthenedst me with strength in my soul.
4 All the kings of the earth shall praise thee, O
LORD, when they hear the words of thy mouth.
5 Yea, they shall sing in the ways of the LORD
for great is the glory of the LORD.
6 Though the LORD be high, yet hath he respect
unto the lowly but the proud he knoweth afar off.
7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou
wilt revive me thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine
enemies, and thy right hand shall save me.
8 The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me
thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever forsake not the works of thine own hands.
We all sinned n deserve GOD’s judgment, but our loving FATHER, GOD sent HIS only begotten SON to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in HIM. JESUS, our LORD who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that HE died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buries n rose from the dead according to the Holy Bible. If you truly believe n trust in your heart, receiving JESUS alone as your SAVIOUR, declaring (by Baptism) JESUS is The LORD n SAVIOUR, you will be SAVED from the judgment n spend ETERNITY with GOD in HEAVEN….
In The name of our LORD JESUS CHRIST.. Amen
