Holy Week – Holy Saturday (Black Saturday) – Bible Study

“For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” Matthew 12:40

After gave up His Spirit on the cross Jesus Christ The Son of God our Lord went into the underworld; not because He died but to redeem the souls of the Old Testament people (from Adam to the people of 33 A.D.) from “Sheol” (Hades). In 1 Peter 3:18-20 scriptures clearly indicate that our God is the forgiving and loving God… and scripture also says that He is the Just God, so that He punished sins, not the sinners. He punished all our past-present-future sins in the body of Christ Jesus, and He died terrible death for our Salvation. Holy Bible says that Jesus preached to obedient and disobedient spirit in prison (Sheol, Hades) who died before the Jesus’s sacrifice (1 Peter 3:19-20).. “By which also He went and preached unto the spirits in prison; 20 Which sometime were disobedient…”, That’s why Lord Jesus Christ descended into the realm of the dead to offered the second chance of Salvation to those in Hades “Sheol” (not hell). The Old Testament uses the term "Sheol" (the Pit) to refer to the abode or state of the dead and The New Testament uses the term "Hades" (Gehenna) for the same place (And this is not hell, hell is not for us but for devil and his fallen angels and God will cast out them into the everlasting fire (hell). See Matthew 18:8-9). Sheol is the place where The Old Testament people souls awaited for the Salvation (Jesus), where all righteous and unrighteous went after they died, where they were awaited the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. ‘Here, We are talking about the people who died before Christ gave His life as our sin offering (His Sacrifice), Please do not be confused this with PURGATORY; it’s NOT PURGATORY! don't believe on it, there is no such place for Christians souls to get purification or temporary punishment, our LORD JESUS is our SALVATION (Psalm 27) and He already purified us with His PRECIOUS BLOOD and with HIS SACRIFICIAL DEATH ON THE CROSS, 1 John 1:7 “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, AND THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST HIS SON CLEANSETH US FROM ALL SIN.” (Read Hebrews 9:13-10:18 ). That is why scripture says God has plan for Salvation for ALL people, and "His salvation" is no other but His only begotten Son Jesus Christ (John 3:16-17)... “For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; 4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” (Read full 1 Timothy 2:1-7) “for the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to ALL men,” Titus 2:11 God’s salvation for ALL, all means all; even for dead.” So, Jesus preached to the dead - just as God our Father planned, in order to rescue us from the power of evil and death.

“The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my.” Psalm 18:2-6 God is our Rock the very foundation of our Salvation and Faith, He has chosen us in Him before we were born, before the foundation of the Earth(We are His Church, His indwelling place and His people). Just like that Jesus chose His disciples-they were already chosen in Him, and even Judas iscariot was also chosen to betray Jesus, for our Salvation through Jesus' sacrificial death, John 3:16-17 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life...". Condemnation kills because it destroys the confidence/Faith on God’s Promise of Salvation and His mercy; as the results, they start thinking they're unworthy for God's forgiveness and feel unworthy even to be called a child of the Lord. But scriptures says “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Romans 8:1 We are not capable to know what is good for us and what is not but the Lord our God who can see our past-present and future knows. Have faith on Him, after all He is the creator of all things. “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him...” Colossians 1:16-20

We all have free will, to do what we think is right. But sometimes we do wrong things, even after The Holy Spirit warn us to not to do so, just like Peter denied Jesus three times, fearing of the punishment and death. But Peter was already chosen in Jesus; that's why by God's will, he repented and God showed His Grace upon him. In Matthew 16:18, Jesus addressing Peter as “rock”, the same person Peter, who denied Jesus three times, but now, he became the greatest example of God's mercy and grace. Just because he repented. Christ Jesus point out on two important things In Matthew 16:18, the first important thing is REPENTANCE. If you're passing through trials and made mistakes, never think that you're not worthy to ask God's mercy and forgiveness. God has the Father's heart.. He is our Heavenly Father. Nothing is hidden from Him, He knows your heart and He is ready to forgive you, if you have the courage to step in His mercy-grace. Nothing can makes God happier than a Prayer from a repentant heart (Luke 15:3-7 , Luke 15:10). Jesus told all His disciples to preach the Gospel to the entire world and baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, He said, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.” Mark 16:15-16 and “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:” Matthew 28:19-20. And the second one is, “He broke the gates of Hades”, JESUS PAID FOR OUR SINS ONCE FOR ALL, He took our place; He took our sins upon Himself and made a legal payment according to the law and died on our behalf, from then death and hades has no dominion over us. "And I say also unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." Matthew 16:18.

1 Peter 3:18–19 says, “For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: 19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;” Did you know that all the tombs were opened when Christ died? " And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God." Matthew 27:52-54, Christ’s flesh died (as the prophecy found in Isaiah 53) and His spirit remained alive (He is God and Man ), after His death on the cross, descended into Hades (prison) to preach to spirits there. 1 Peter 3:19-20 “By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; 20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.” and Acts 2:31 “He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hades, neither his flesh did see corruption.”. We must believe, that Christ's body lying in the grave, His soul descended into Hades not to suffer pains, but to save—to “proclaimed to the spirits in prison,” that is, in Hades.

The Paintings depicts Jesus, vested in white and gold to symbolise his divine majesty, standing on Hades’ broken gates and lying in a crosswise (x) pattern and He is holding Adam and Eve and pulling them up out of Hades. Revelation 1:18: “I Am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.” And Ephesians 4:8 “Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.” as He takes all of Old Testament people by the hand—and frees them from the captivity of Hades. THEN, ON THE THIRD DAY HE ROSE AGAIN FROM DEATH TO LIFE, manifestly showing Himself to His Disciples, eating with them, and speaking of the Kingdom of God and on the 40th day He ascended to the Heaven “But from now on THE SON OF MAN WILL BE SEATED AT THE RIGHT HAND of the power OF GOD” Luke 22:69 and Acts 2:33 and He sent The Holy Spirit as the Helper on the day of the PENTECOST, 50th day after His resurrecting ( Acts 2). The Holy Spirit, who seals us until the day of Redemption (RAPTURE) “And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.” Ephesians 4:30 and once you received “The Seal of The Holy Spirit” and once we got this seal then devil, all evils and even death has no power over us.. Christ will return at any moment for the Rapture of the Church (Christians/ Believers), and take all of us with Him in secret, the world will get confused about our disappearing and false prophets will give them a good explanation of our sudden disappearing, like alien attack!! It will be Pre-Tribulation Rapture because Jesus said in Revelation 3:10 He will took us before the Tribulation “the hour of temptation” (from the great tribulation)(RAPTURE, Read 1 Corinthians 15:51-56, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, Revelation 3:10)“I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world,..” Revelation 3:10-11 , we must be ready because “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.” Matthew 24:36, “Behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the.” Revelation 22:12-14, “I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world” Revelation 3:10 (Read Matthew 28, Luke 14, Ephesians. 4, 1 Corinthians. 15, The Acts 1.) HE IS GOD, NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR HIM. Acts 2:31: "...He, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption. He is the creator of Heaven and earth “All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. John 1:3” and “I Am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” Revelation 1:8 and He has the key of hell and of death “I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.” Revelation 1:18 So He has the Power over everything. That’s our Lord and He has the most compassionate Heart towards us, Bible is full of stories about God's mercy toward His people and HOLY SATURDAY is the most beautiful example of His great mercy. Let’s see it again “By which also He went and preached unto the spirits in prison;” 1 Peter 3:18-20 Jesus descended into Hades to preach the "God's Gospel of Grace" to the poor souls. “For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.”. 1 Peter 4:6 He died, He descended into the lower parts of the earth (Hades), and overcame Satan and the power of death; and then He ascended with people who died before His death and resurrection. Blessed be The Lord, Highest in Heaven, Triune Holy God. HOLY.. HOLY.. HOLY…

No one is ever too lost to be saved by God's amazing grace. It doesn't matter how many steps you took away from God, remember there's only one step backward to get right with Him; only single step in the right direction. Sometimes we get so hard on ourselves that we don't want to see we already has the solution of our problem! We're living in the constant fear of our society; fear of being criticised, fear from changes and fear of being hurt, and that's how we have missed the point; the point of “God's Grace!” Trusting in God's unfailing Grace and Favour is the exact opposite of living in fear that society doesn't has. Place your Trust in Him, He created all the things visible and non-visible and He knows what's going on, Just BELIEVE “But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: 8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him” 1 Corinthians 2:7-9 We don't need to be perfect because we have the Perfect God Almighty as our helper and our Guide “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.” Psalm 32:8. God the Father wants us to rely on Him for everything, from our daily bread to our Eternal Salvation, He is our provider God …“Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, “He gave them bread from heaven to eat.” John 6:31-44, “Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:” Romans 3: 24 , “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Romans 10:9, Nothing is impossible for God, if we believe in Him, He will do it for us “But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.” Luke 1:37 Bible is full of the story about God's mercy toward peoples disobedience and iniquity. We saw how forgiving was our Heavenly Father towards those people in Bible time, than why do we think that the same God who full of compassion and grace suddenly changed? He has the same compassionate Heart and He loves us; HIS Children and His marvellous creations. But He is the just God, He punish the sins but not sinners because Jesus already took our punishment on the cross and died for our sins, but Jesus is the God, One of the member of the Holy Trinity so that He rose again from death on the third day (That's why we celebrate The Resurrection Day, Easter) “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” Hebrews 13:8 So, don't be like modern day Pharisees! Look at the ordinary people in the Gospels, those Israelites (not pharisees and sadducees, except Nicodemus ) and Gentiles (everyone except Jews) knew nothing about The Messiah, (The Son of God and our Saviour) but they followed Jesus Christ and accepted Him as their Saviour by the inspiration of God and the Holy Spirit. WE read their stories in The Bible, they were real and they were became God's living miracle... Be the living miracle! Have Faith on God Almighty.

“Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.” Psalm 121:2-4 , “The nation is like a mighty lion; When it is sleeping, no one dares wake it. Whoever blesses Israel will be blessed, And whoever curses Israel will be cursed.” Numbers 24:9 There are many PROPHECIES about “The Great Tribulation” (Read Micah 2:12) Isaiah 63:1-6 describe the area of “Petra” in Jordan as the place where Jews flee when the antiChrist begins persecution, it will be a horrible time for those who will left behind (This is why I urge you to accept Jesus Christ as your God and Saviour, be Baptized in Him) “God Just to For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to ALL men” Titus 2:11-12 whether you are Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhist, atheists you can start your New Life from today by accepting Jesus Christ as your God, Saviour and by being Baptized in His name you will have the Power of Holy Spirit, who seals you until the day of Redemption (RAPTURE) “And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.” Ephesians 4:30 and once you received “The Seal of The Holy Spirit” then antiChrist, all evils and death has no power over you “Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,” Romans 4:16, (Read also Ephesians 2:8-11, Galatians 3:28, Romans 10:12, Acts 2:21-22, 1 Timothy 2:4-6 ) Alright, back to the point! The Jews in the 7 years period of great tribulation -- (Read Micah 2:12) Isaiah 63:1-6 describe the area of “Petra” in Jordan as the place where Jews flee when the antiChrist begins persecution, It is where they remain safely protected by God during the period of the Great Tribulation. That is why Israel will stand firm even after going through 7 years of the great tribulation and all, “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish.” Isaiah 41:10-11 So, the main thing is Israelites need to accept Jesus as The Messiah, this is the last chance to get Raptured and if they don't then, they will have to go through the 7 years of Great Tribulation because of their unbelief on the Son of God Jesus Christ, The Promised Messiah. But God will deliver them, and they will accept Jesus as their Messiah and then The Millennial Kingdom will began, God judge the world and will throw the devil and his followers into the lake of fire and then The New Heaven and The New Earth will come down from above. (See Revelation chapter 7 to 22)

1 Peter 3:18-20,

“Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead. 6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.”

"I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death." Revelation 1:18

"The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works." Revelation 20:13 and "Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death." Revelation 20:14

"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service.."Romans 12:1-2

1 Peter 3

“Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;

2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.

3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands

6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.

7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

8 Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous

9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.

10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile

11 Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.

12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.

13 And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?

14 But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;

15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear

16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.

17 For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.

18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit

19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ

22 Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.”

1 Peter 4:1-8

“Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;

2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries

4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you

5 Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.

6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

7 But the end of all things is at hand be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.

8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.”

Psalm 130

“In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed deliver me in thy righteousness.

2 Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me.

3 For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me.

4 Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me for thou art my strength.

5 Into thine hand I commit my spirit thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.”

We all sinned n deserve GOD’s judgment, but our loving FATHER, GOD sent HIS only begotten SON to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in HIM. JESUS, our LORD who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that HE died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buries n rose from the dead according to the Holy Bible. If you truly believe n trust in your heart, receiving JESUS alone as your SAVIOUR, declaring (by Baptism) JESUS is The LORD n SAVIOUR, you will be SAVED from the judgment n spend ETERNITY with GOD in HEAVEN…. In The name of our LORD JESUS CHRIST.. Amen

Holy Week – Good Friday – Bible Study

John 18:19-24, This chapters tells of Jesus’ betrayal by Judas, His informal hearing before Annas, His Roman trial before Pilate, and His Crucifixion and burial. Only John repost Jesus’ appears before Annas, who sent Him to his son-in-law Caiaphas (High Priest), and the jewish peoples then appealed to the Roman governor Pilate to have Jesus put to death, the Roman trial is covered in more detail than in the synoptic Gospels. Luke records that Pilate sent Jesus to Herod Antipas, who questioned Jesus but returned Him to Pilate without rendering any judgment. Pilate then sent Jesus to be crucified at Golgotha. (John does not provide an account of Jesus’ formal Jewish trial before Caiaphas and the Sanhedrin.) John emphasize that everything occurring in the final week fulfills scripture (Prophecies) and occur in accordance with God’s plan (for our Salvation).

Let’s see this in more detail. Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Good Friday, the most difficult day of Holy Week. Christ's journey turned breath-taking painful in these final hours leading to His death. (Read Isaiah 53:10–11) After Judas betrayed Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane (Read Matthew 26:47-56) (Prophecy fulfilled: Ps 41:9 “Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.” and Zechariah 11:12-13 “…So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver…”), the mob took Jesus to the house of Caiaphas, the High Priest (The house of Caiaphas, the High Priest was likely a mansion, probably on the eastern slope of Jerusalem, overlooking the Temple area). Matthew 26:57 “And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the High Priest…” and Peter followed at a distance and came to the courtyard of the High Priest. Three different people recognized him as one of Jesus' disciples, but Peter strongly denied it each time. Then a rooster crowed, and Peter remembered what Jesus had said. He felt very ashamed and began to cry Matthew 26:69-75. The High Priest, all the chief priests, the elders were waiting at the High Priest's house. This was an informal late-night meeting of the Sanhedrin, the Jewish ruling council Matthew 26:59 “Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death”. The religious leaders were looking for evidence that would justify putting Jesus to death, but they could not find any Matthew 26:60 “But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses,”. They called many witnesses against Jesus, but the witnesses did not agree with each other Matthew 26:60-67. Finally, the High Priest find a reason Mark 14:61, “Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?” Jesus replied Mark 14:62, “I Am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of Heaven.” Jesus confession acknowledge that He is Messiah and the Son of God. He described Himself as a Son of Man and the phrase coming on the clouds of Heaven were drawn from Daniel 7:13 (Prophecy)“I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.” Jesus’ words conformed that He intended this title to express not just His humanity but His identity as a King of Heavenly origin who would reign over and eternal Kingdom. The word seated at the right hand echoes Psalm 110:1 “The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.” Then Then the High Priest tore his robe, such an action Jesus’ application this to Himself gave the impression that He was clamming to be God’s equal. The unbelieving Jewish leaders regarded this as blasphemy, a crime worthy of death. After listening this the High Priest tore down his robe, it was normally prohibited for the High Priest Leviticus 10:6, 21:10 and he said Mark 14:63-65, “… Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death. …” Then they spat in Jesus' face and started beating Him. The religious leaders had agreed that Jesus should be put to death. But they did not have authority to put anyone to death under Roman law. So, as soon as morning came, they took Jesus to the Roman governor, Pontius Pilate Mark 15:1 “And straightway in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate.”. They falsely blamed Jesus of act against the Roman Empire for claiming to be the King of the Jews and for urging people not to pay their taxes. Pilate saw that Jesus was not really guilty but Pilate did not want trouble with the religious leaders so he asked Jesus Mark 15:12 Are you the King of the Jews?, Here Jesus refused to defend Himself before Pilate. (Prophecy fulfilled: Isaiah 53:7 “He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.”) He, Himself, said those responsible for His death were doing God's will, even though they didn't know it Matthew 26:53-54 “Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?” (See also Mark 10:33-34, John 12:24-28, 18:11, 19:10-11)

It was the governor's custom to release one prisoner at the Passover-anyone the people wanted released Matthew 27;15-16 “Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would.”. The Jewish leaders knew this and had persuaded the crowd of people gathered around Pilate's house to call for the release of a criminal named Barabbas, When Pilate asked the crowd yelled for Barabbas to be released and Crucify Jesus Matthew 27:21-22 “The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas. 22 Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.”.

“Release for the crowd..” Pilate had apparently begun this custom to win favor with the people. Barnabas (Judas Iscariot’s brother) a notorious criminal who had committed robbery (ancient-day Robin Hood) treason, murder. In Matthew 27:19, Pilate’s wife had a dream that Jesus is innocent, Roman often view dreams as omens. So Pilate washed his hands in public to demonstrate that he finds no ground to giving Jesus the death penalty and on the third hour (9 a.m) Pilate ordered the Roman soldiers to crucify Jesus Matthew 27:26 “Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.” First, He was beaten by Roman soldiers (Prophecy fulfilled: Isaiah 50:6 “I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.”). Then He was made to carry His cross to the place of execution Matthew 27:27-33. (Prophecy fulfilled: read Ps 22) In Matthew 27:32, Simon was likely a Jew who had traveled to Jerusalem for the Passover with his child. “he carry Jesus cross….” Jesus was severally weakened from the beating and loss of blood. He was unable to carry His cross, which would have weighted 30 to 40 pounds ( 14 to 18 kg). Matthew 27:34, “They gave Him vinegar to drink…” (Prophecy) fulfilment of Psalm 69:21. This was customarily given to prisoners to serve as a kind of anesthetic it was literally a drugged “wine”. The statement that HE WOULD NOT DRINK indicates that Jesus refused any mitigation of His sufferings on our behalf. In Matthew 27:36-44, Pilate placed a placard over Jesus’ head with the accusation: THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS. Little did he realize how true this intended mockery of Jesus really was. Indeed, as Matthew shows, Jesus is the King of the Jews whom they had rejected. Matthew 27:45, “Sixth hour… until the ninth hour..” from noon until 3 p.m. the ninth hour was the time when Jews offered the daily evening sacrifice. Here “darkness” is not the solar eclipse, since Passover occurred only during a new moon. Rather, it is the supernatural act of God, displaying His displeasure and judgment upon humanity for crucifying His Son.

Matthew 27:46, God’s wrath was poured upon His son during this time of darkness at the ninth hour (3 p.m.) Jesus Cried “My God, My God why hast Thou forsaken Me?” here we have the high cost to Christ of His atonement for our sins, who was accused of God as our sin bearer 2 Corinthians 5:21 “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”, Galatians 3:13 “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:” and suffered the agony of painful death for us “He.. cried.. with a loud voice…” as a shout of triumph, and He gave up His Spirit to God’s hands. In other words, having borne the wrath of God’s judgment against sin, He knew He had triumphed over satan and the curse of sin. Matthew 27:51-53, the event immediately following Jesus’ death are remarkable indeed. “The veil of the temple…” refers ether to the curtain over entrance to the Holy place or the curtain separating the Holy place from the Holy of Holies. The latter is probable here and symbolizes the permanent opening of God’s presence to man and man’s direct access to God through the atoning death of Christ. The other side, Peter cry and beg for the forgiveness for he denies Jesus three times (and he received it; not only is he forgiven of his denial of Christ, he is the one to enter the empty tomb where Jesus was laid and the one whom God uses to preach to the crowd on the Day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit visited with Christ’s followers (Read The Acts 2 – God’s mercy and loving-kindness andureth forever) but Judas committed an awful sin; he hang himself Read Matthew 27:1-10.

My friends, Human's average earthly life is no longer than 120 years, but our soul is eternal. Christ gave Himself as a sacrifice for our sins to rescue us from this evil world (the most painful death on the cross), don't waste His sacrifice. Isaiah 53:11.. He died for you, so live for Him. Don't let your today's disappointment ruins your glorious future. Have faith, stay positive. Judas’s couldn’t understand the “the Gospel of Grace” he didn’t repent but condemn himself (but Peter repented), his fear was bigger than his faith. In the end he committed suicide and when other disciples asked Jesus about Judas, Jesus answered them, John 21:20-25. Nothing more valuable than life that God’s gives to us, we don’t have right to took it away. Judas judged himself, he didn’t trust God’s mercy, and while Peter did (Whereas, they both did sin against Jesus). Peter repented and asked for forgiveness, that’s why God showed mercy on Peter and made him “Fisher of The Man” (Matthew 4:19) and gave him the “Keys of Heaven and hell” (Matthew 16:19); that’s our God.. His mercy endures forever...and ever.. (Psalm 136)

Remember, the true gospel is the good news that God saves sinners. The three time Holy God cannot let sin go unpunished. Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death;…” To bear our own sins would be to suffer God’s judgment in the flames of hell Romans 6:23 “…but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”. Praise The Lord, God ..most High Romans 5:12 “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:”, He kept His promise to send and sacrifice the perfect Lamb-Jesus Christ to bear the sins of those who trust in Him. Jesus had to die because He is the only one who can pay the penalty for our sins John 3:16-17 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”. Let’s talk about why all this happened? Or I should say, why are we “born sinners”? It’s all begin in the garden of Eden! God created earth and man perfect but when Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s commands Genesis 3:7 “And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.”, He had to punish them (See also Genesis 2:4 to Genesis 3:24.) God love them but overlooking their sin would make the Holy God unjust. Death is the only option to punish all sin. “For the wages of sin is death” Romans 6:23. Even good works cannot make up for wrongs against the Holy God. Compared to His goodness, “All our Righteousnesses are as filthy rags” Isaiah 64:6. Ever since Adam’s sin, every human has been guilty of disobeying God’s Righteous laws. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23. Because of sin, everyone has deserved death–eternal separation from God in hell.

but God didn’t leave them without hope. He promised He would send a Saviour–Jesus Christ to defeat the serpent Genesis 3:15. Until then, men would sacrifice innocent lambs, showing their repentance from sin. God’s perfect Son fulfilled God’s perfect requirement of God’s perfect law. John 3:16-17 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” God Himself provided the only sacrifice Jesus who could atone for the sins of His people. It is perfectly brilliant in its simplicity. “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21. and Hebrews 10:38-39 “Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. 39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.”.

Alright then! Back… to the Jerusalem, The cross was placed between two other men who were being crucified that day Read Matthew 27:38-44. The soldiers nailed Jesus to the cross and left Him to die. They put a sign on the cross to mock Jesus that said, "Jesus of Nazareth, The King of the Jews. (INRI)" Matthew 27:37 “And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.” The Latin letters "INRI" (Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum) put on the cross by Pilate; It means "Jesus of Nazareth, The King of the Jews. Little did His assassins realize Jesus Christ is really The Greatest KING of all time. During that time, soldiers cast lots for Jesus' clothing, John 19:23 “Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.”(Prophecy fulfilled: Ps 22:18 “They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.”) while people passed by shouting insults. From the cross, Jesus spoke to His mother Mary and the disciple John (Read John 19:25-27.) Then, about noon strange things begin to happen. Darkness came over the land for three hours Matthew 27:45 “Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.”. Jesus showed mercy to all by asking His Father forgiveness for them Luke 23:34 “Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.”.Then He cried out Matthew 27:46 “And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” Then He ask for drink And, when they gave Him sour wine, He did drink it Matthew 27:34 “They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.”(Prophecy fulfilled: Ps 69:21 “They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.”-see also Jeremiah 31:29) and He said “It is finished” then He died John 19:30 “When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.” and Luke 23:46 “And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.” (Prophecy fulfilled: Read Isaiah 53:4-6). Matthew's Gospel records (Read Matthew 27:51-61), "The earth shook and the rocks split. The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life." It was typical for Roman soldiers to show mercy by breaking the criminal's legs, thus causing death to come more quickly. But this night only the thieves had their legs broken, for when the soldiers came to Jesus, they found him already dead John 19:32-33 “Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him. 33 But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:” (Prophecy fulfilled: Ps 34:20 “He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.”). Instead, they pierced His side John 19:34. The Holy Bible instructs us to remember Christ’s death by observing the Lord’s Supper/Holy Communion. 1 Corinthians 11:24-26 “...do this in remembrance of me...for whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.” At the time, the curtain of the temple was mysteriously torn in two, and there was a great earthquake Matthew 27:51 “And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;” Matthew 27:54 “Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.”. Now, the Sabbath would start at sundown. It was also a very special Sabbath because it was Passover. (Prophecy fulfilled: Zechariah 12:10 “And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.”) The Jewish leaders wanted all the bodies buried before the Sabbath started because they were not allowed to do any work on the Sabbath. By 6 p.m. Friday evening, before sunset, Jesus was taken down by Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea and laid in Joseph's tomb according to Jewish tradition (Prophecy fulfilled: Isaiah 53:9 “And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.”). Read Matthew 27:42-45. Pilate ordered to rolled a large stone in front of the tomb to seal it Matthew 27:66. And 1 Peter 3:18 “For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:”

GOD so loved the world... –John 3:16

Christ is the sacrifice that takes away our sins and the sins of all the world's people. Blood of CHRIST JESUS brings forgiveness of sins. Salvation comes through HIM n the sacrifice of HIS physical body on the cross made us RIGHTEOUSS in The GOD’s eyes "Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world." John 1:29. JESUS’s sacrifice of HIMSELF made it possible to take away the sins of the world - Passover lamb –N so we can reunite with GOD with the help of The HOLY SPIRIT, our comforter – helper. “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” John 14:26

No one is ever too lost to be saved by God's amazing grace. It doesn't matter how many steps you took away from God, remember there's only one step backward to get right with Him; only single step in the right direction. Sometimes we get so hard on ourselves that we don't want to see we already has the solution of our problem! We're living in the constant fear of our society; fear of being criticized, fear from changes and fear of being hurt, and that's how we have missed the point; the point of “God's Grace!” Trusting in God's unfailing Grace and Favour is the exact opposite of living in fear that society doesn't has. Place your Trust in Him, He created all the things visible and nonvisible and He knows what's going on, Just BELIEVE “But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: 8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him” 1 Corinthians 2:7-9 We don't need to be perfect because we have the Perfect God Almighty as our helper and our Guide “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.” Psalm 32:8. God the Father wants us to rely on Him for everything, from our daily bread to our Eternal Salvation, He is our provider God …“Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, “He gave them bread from heaven to eat.” John 6:31-44, “Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:” Romans 3: 24 , “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Romans 10:9, Nothing is impossible for God, if we believe in Him, He will do it for us “But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.” Luke 1:37 Bible is full of the story about God's mercy toward peoples disobedience and iniquity. We saw how forgiving was our Heavenly Father towards those people in Bible time, than why do we think that the same God who full of compassion and grace suddenly changed? He has the same compassionate Heart and He loves us; HIS Children and His marvellous creations. But He is the just God, He punish the sins but not sinners because Jesus already took our punishment on the cross and died for our sins, but Jesus is the God, One of the member of the Holy Trinity so that He rose again from death on the third day (That's why we celebrate The Resurrection Day, Easter) “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” Hebrews 13:8 So, don't be like modern day Pharisees! Look at the ordinary people in the Gospels, those Israelites and Gentiles (everyone except Jews) knew nothing about The Messiah, (The Son of God and our Saviour) but they followed Jesus Christ and accepted Him as their Saviour by the inspiration of God and the Holy Spirit. WE read their stories in The Bible, they were real and they were became God's living miracle... Be the living miracle! Have Faith on God Almighty.

Prophecy fulfilled:

Ps 22

My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?

2 O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent.

3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.

4 Our fathers trusted in thee they trusted, and thou didst deliver them.

5 They cried unto thee, and were delivered they trusted in thee, and were not confounded.

6 But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.

7 All they that see me laugh me to scorn they shoot out the lip, they shake the head saying,

8 He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.

9 But thou art he that took me out of the womb thou didst make me hope when I was upon my mother's breasts.

10 I was cast upon thee from the womb thou art my God from my mother's belly.

11 Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help.

12 Many bulls have compassed me strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.

13 They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion.

24 For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard.

25 My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation I will pay my vows before them that fear him.

26 The meek shall eat and be satisfied they shall praise the LORD that seek him your heart shall live for ever.

27 All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.

28 For the kingdom is the LORD's and he is the governor among the nations.

29 All they that be fat upon earth shall eat and worship all they that go down to the dust shall bow before him and none can keep alive his own soul.

30 A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.

31 They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this.

Isaiah 53

Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?

2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

8 He was taken from prison and from judgment and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Matthew 26:1-75

And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples,

2 Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.

3 Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the High Priest, who was called Caiaphas,

4 And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him.

5 But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people.

6 Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,

7 There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.

8 But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste?

9 For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.

10 When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me.

11 For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.

12 For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial.

13 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.

14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,

15 And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.

16 And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.

17 Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?

18 And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.

19 And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.

20 Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.

21 And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.

22 And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?

23 And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.

24 The Son of man goeth as it is written of him but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.

25 Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.

26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.

27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;

28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.

30 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

31 Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.

32 But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.

33 Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended.

34 Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.

35 Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.

36 Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.

37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.

38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death tarry ye here, and watch with me.

39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?

41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.

43 And he came and found them asleep again for their eyes were heavy.

44 And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.

45 Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

46 Rise, let us be going behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.

47 And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people.

48 Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he hold him fast.

49 And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him.

50 And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.

51 And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the High Priest's, and smote off his ear.

52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.

53 Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?

54 But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?

55 In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me.

56 But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.

57 And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the High Priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.

58 But Peter followed him afar off unto the High Priest's palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end.

59 Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;

60 But found none yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses,

61 And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.

62 And the High Priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?

63 But Jesus held his peace. And the High Priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.

64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of Heaven.

65 Then the High Priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.

66 What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.

67 Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands,

68 Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?

69 Now Peter sat without in the palace and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee.

70 But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest.

71 And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth.

72 And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.

73 And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee.

74 Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew.

75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

Matthew 27:1-66

When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death

2 And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.

3 Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,

4 Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.

5 And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.

6 And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.

7 And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in.

8 Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day.

9 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value;

10 And gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me.

11 And Jesus stood before the governor and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest.

12 And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.

13 Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee?

14 And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly.

15 Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would.

16 And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.

17 Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?

18 For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.

19 When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.

20 But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.

21 The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.

22 Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.

23 And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.

24 When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person see ye to it.

25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

26 Then released he Barabbas unto them and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.

28 And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.

29 And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!

30 And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.

31 And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.

32 And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name him they compelled to bear his cross.

33 And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,

34 They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.

35 And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.

36 And sitting down they watched him there;

37 And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

38 Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.

39 And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,

40 And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.

41 Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,

42 He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.

43 He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him for he said, I am the Son of God.

44 The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.

45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.

46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

47 Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.

48 And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.

49 The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.

50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.

51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,

53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

54 Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.

55 And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him

56 Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children.

57 When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple

58 He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.

59 And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,

60 And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.

61 And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre.

62 Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,

63 Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.

64 Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead so the last error shall be worse than the first.

65 Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch go your way, make it as sure as ye can.

66 So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.
